Pirelli verwacht 'eenstoppers' maar meer actie in 2019

Formule 1-fans mogen dit seizoen minder activiteit in de pits verwachten, daar staat tegenover dat er meer actie op het circuit zal zijn. Dat is de insteek van de officiële bandenleveranciers van de sport Pirelli.

Pirelli's autosportdirecteur Mario Isola gelooft dat de veranderingen aan auto's en banden voor het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen de kwaliteit van het racen op de baan zal verbeteren, maar verwacht wel dat eenstoppers de norm zullen blijven.

Gevraagd of hij verwacht dat de voorkeur van de teams voor een eenstopper zal gaan, zei Isola: "Ik denk het wel". Afgelopen seizoen introduceerde Pirelli een zachtere compound banden, in de hoop dat de teams de strategieën zouden aanpassen. In plaats daarvan gaven ze de voorkeur om een eenstopper te doen, omdat ze niet bereid waren om hun 'track-position' op te geven.

Isola zei dat de nieuwe banden van Pirelli voor 2019 een aanvulling zullen zijn op de veranderingen aan de auto's die bedoeld zijn om het 'close racen' en inhalen te stimuleren: "Het doel is om het inhalen gemakkelijker te maken. De auto die volgt, voelt de auto minder aan de voorkant, waardoor je minder downforce verliest."

"Bovendien zal dit jaar de DRS efficiënter zijn, ook dat is een goede zaak betreffende het inhalen. De auto's nemen dit seizoen ook nog eens vijf kilogram meer brandstof mee, zodat ze minder brandstof hoeven te sparen."

"Daarom hebben wij banden ontworpen die minder gevoelig zijn voor oververhitting en een beetje consistenter zijn. We hebben misschien maar één stop, maar meer actie op het circuit. Dat is en blijft het doel namelijk, het inhalen op het circuit."

Isola betwijfelt ook of de nieuwe auto's langzamer zullen zijn als gevolg van de banden en aerodynamische veranderingen voor 2019. "Iedereen was ervan overtuigd dat het nieuwe aeropakket de downforce zou verminderen", zei hij. "Kijkend naar de rondetijden, is dit waarschijnlijk niet het geval," sloot hij af.

Iemand die het met mee eens is dat racen slechter is geworden sinds Pirelli aanwezig is?
Niemand wijst hun aan maar echt de banden zijn bagger, raken overhit bij close racing, dus rijden ze 2 seconden erachter... Daarnaast bieden ze slecht grip voor slicks, maakt Pirelli altijd een veel te veilig... [Lees verder]

  Mercedes had veel last van oververhitting van de banden, maar daar stonden ze niet alleen in. Afgelopen jaar heb ik bij veel andere teams ook issues met blaren gezien. Goed dat ze dit bij Pirelle aangepakt hebben. Je wilt geen race lang naar bandenmanagement zitten kijken.

  Dan is het toch vreemd dat Mercedes maar 1x de C2 band heeft gekozen want dat was de enige band waar ze net zo snel waren als Ferrari.

  Grotestappen, ik refereerde aan vorig seizoen v.w.b. de oververhitting. C1 t/m C5 is voor dit jaar.

Minder bandenslijtage, minder bandenbesparing, minder pitstops, meer snelheid, meer actie op de baan

Ik weet het niet of dit allemaal beter is, heb liever dat ze de pit meerdere keren bezoeken.

Zal niet de eerste keer zijn dat Pirelli de plank flink mis slaat.........snap er nog steeds niks van wat er mis was met de banden van een paar seizoenen terug toen men minimaal een 2 stopper moest maken. De coureurs konden misschien niet zolang pushen maar de races waren top, veel meer inhaal acties en iedere race was er toch de spanning wie heeft er uiteindelijk de beste strategie en gaat goed met de banden om. Nu krijgen we nog meer 1 stoppers, die 1 stoppers waren/zijn dodelijk voor het verkrijgen van een spannende race.............ben ik nu gek of is het Pirelli gek die roept dat de races beter worden.
Ik heb nog een beetje hoop aangezien Lewis totaal niet te spreken was over de banden, misschien krijgen we toch meer stops dan Pirelli verwacht en zijn de banden gewoon ruk wat goed is voor de spanning....

  Ik neem aan dat je naar de eerste races van 2012 refereert? Toen was het eerder een loterij welk team de banden op orde kreeg, tot iedereen ze eindelijk een beetje leerde kennen.

Tja eenstoppers waren vorig seizoen ook de standaard. 5 kg meer brandstof mee nemen? De teams rekenen precies uit hoeveel ze mee moeten nemen, er start geen enkel team met 105 kilo.
Kan mij al jaren niet bekoren die italiaanse meuk.
