Carlos Sainz: "Ik ben enthousiast om het seizoen 2019 te beginnen"

Carlos Sainz begint het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen met veel vertrouwen. De Madrileense-coureur heeft goede herinneringen aan de Grand Prix van Australië. "Na twee weken van productieve pre-season tests ben ik opgewonden om het seizoen 2019 te starten. Melbourne is de perfecte plek om het seizoen te beginnen. Ik zal daar altijd naar toe gaan met het idee dat ik daar mijn debuut heb gemaakt en mijn eerste punten heb gescoord. Ik kijk uit naar mijn eerste Grand Prix-weekend met McLaren."

Sainz heeft al een idee waar McLaren zich tijdens de eerste race zal bevinden: "Ik vertrouw op het werk dat ik met mijn ingenieurs heb gedaan en ik voel me fit en klaar om de baan op te gaan. Het is tijd om te concurreren en te zien waar we staan ten opzichte van onze concurrenten. Ik miste de Formule 1 tijdens de winterpauze enorm", vertelde hij.

Teammanager Gil de Ferran merkt van zijn kant op: "Hier staan we aan het begin van een spannend Formule 1-seizoen. Net als alle mensen die gepassioneerd zijn door de Formule 1, kijken wij bij McLaren uit naar dit moment. Ondanks de moeilijkheden bij het verkrijgen van de precieze rangschikking betreffende de teams kunnen we er zeker van zijn dat dit een strak seizoen zal worden."

"Naast het zo goed mogelijk begrijpen van de MCL34 hebben we in de winter gewerkt aan de integratie van Carlos en Lando in het team. We hebben ons ook als groep voorbereid, we hebben geprobeerd om elk aspect van onze standpunten te verbeteren. Het voorseizoen was productief en nuttig voor ons, want we hebben onze doelstellingen op een bevredigde manier bereikt. De reis gaat dit seizoen verder, met een nieuwe epische strijd die het hele jaar door zal gaan", aldus de Braziliaanse Indianapolis 500-winnaar van 2003.

Sainz een zwakke coureur noemen is onzin. Ik weet dat hij hier niet veel krediet heeft als oud teammaat van Max , maar dat verandert niks aan zijn capaciteiten en die heeft ie echt wel.

McLaren zal waarschijnlijk weer meedoen in het middenveld, waar het dringen gaat zijn. Ik verwacht hetzelfde van McLaren als dat ik doe van Alfa Romeo, Haas, Renault, STR en Racing Point. Williams zal (helaas) de achterhoede blijven bezetten denk ik.

  Ik verwacht dat McLaren eindelijk stappen gaat maken naar de desastreuze jaren. Wel jammer voor hen dat nu net Alonso is opgestapt. De zwakte van McLaren zijn nu de coureurs. Van de topteams hebben ze de zwakste line-up. Althans Sainz. Van Lando gaat doen is nog afwachten. Als die zich snel ontwikkeld kan hij halverwege het seizoen gewoon de snelste coureur van het team zijn. Ach, dan stapt Alonso in 2020 gewoon weer in i.p.v. Carlos

  Precies, Sainz is gewoon een prima coureur.
  Is geen top zoals Verstappen, Hamilton of Vettel, maar wel gewoon ruim voldoende.

  Eens. Gewoon een goede rijder. Beetje ala bottas/Perez/Hulk. Die heb je ook gewoon nodig. degelijke punten pakkers. Verwacht er geen wonderen van maar redelijk stabiel zijn ze wel.

  Sorry... ik vind Sainz niet zo sterk. Hij maakt teveel fouten en wordt consequent verslagen door zijn teamgenoten. Niveau Hulkenberg of Bottas? Hahaha.... dat mocht hij wensen!
