Vettel gelooft niet dat Mercedes halve seconde achter Ferrari staat

Lewis Hamilton beweerde tijdens de wintertests dat Ferrari mogelijk een halve seconde voorsprong zou hebben op Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel gelooft daar niet van, want hij zag tijdens de tweede testweek een sterk optreden van het Duitse team.

Ferrari maakte een ijzersterke indruk tijdens de twee testweken in Barcelona. Vettel en teamgenoot Charles Leclerc oogden snel en noteerden uiteindelijk de eerste en de derde tijd van de tests. Tussen de Ferrari's in stond uiteindelijk Hamilton, die slechts 0,003 seconde toegaf op de tijd van Vettel. Desondanks liet de regerend wereldkampioen zich ontvallen dat Ferrari mogelijk een halve seconde sneller zou zijn dan Mercedes.

Dat gelooft Vettel niet. "In de tweede week zagen ze er sterk uit. Niet tijdens slechts één run, maar in alle runs. Ik weet niet wat ze in de eerste week gedaan hebben, maar eerlijk gezegd hadden ze in die week beter thuis kunnen blijven. Ik denk echter dat ze erg sterk zullen zijn. Ze zullen dit weekend strijden om de pole position en de overwinning."

Volgens Vettel voelt de nieuwe Ferrari, de SF90, goed aan. Of het genoeg is voor een vijfde wereldtitel, weet hij nog niet. Die zou hij graag behalen na de afgelopen twee seizoen tweede geworden te zijn achter Lewis Hamilton. "De Formule 1 werkt zo dat de winnaar geweldig is en alles goed gedaan heeft, terwijl de tweede plek niets betekent. Helaas heb ik dat nu twee jaar op rij moeten ervaren."

"Er waren echter veel positieve elementen te zien vorig jaar. Ik denk dat het team groeit. Het zou verkeerd zijn om de pagina om te slaan en te zeggen dat alles anders moet, omdat vorig jaar verschrikkelijk was. Dat zou de verkeerde aanpak zijn. Ik denk dat we veel dingen goed gedaan hebben. Sommige dingen ook niet en die dingen moeten we veranderen. Ik ben echter positief. Dit jaar hebben we een nieuwe kans en het team zit vol energie, dus we gaan er weer voor. Ik ben blij om weer in te stappen en te gaan racen."

Hopelijk heeft Vettel gelijk ,maar zie Mercedes staat er weer ofwel speelt Ferrari nu verstoppertje in de 2de vrije training ?
