Vietnam begonnen met aanleg Formule 1-circuit in Hanoi

Vietnam is begonnen met de werkzaamheden aan het stratencircuit in Hanoi, dat vanaf 2020 een Grand Prix van de Formule 1 organiseert. Tijdens een ceremonie op woensdag werd symbolisch de eerste steen gelegd en FIA-president Jean Todt was bij dat moment aanwezig.

In november 2018 kondigde de Formule 1 aan dat de sport per 2020 naar Vietnam zou komen voor een grand prix. De race op het stratencircuit van Hanoi is de eerste nieuwe wedstrijd die onder leiding van Liberty Media aan de kalender werd toegevoegd. Met de race in Hanoi wordt de Oost-Aziatische aanwezigheid op de kalender vergroot: naast Vietnam organiseren ook China, Singapore en Japan jaarlijks een grand prix.

Todt aanwezig bij ceremonie

De eerste Grand Prix van Vietnam staat voor april 2020 op het programma en ruim een jaar voor die datum zijn de betrokkenen in hoofdstad Hanoi dus begonnen aan de aanleg van het stratencircuit, dat 5,5 kilometer lang zal zijn. Woensdag werd symbolisch de eerste steen aan het project gelegd en FIA-president Todt was daarbij aanwezig. Tijdens een ceremonie in Hanoi vertelde hij de aanwezigen dat het evenement een grote kans biedt voor stad en land. "Dit evenement zal Vietnam, en in het bijzonder haar hoofdstad, een internationale uitstraling geven."

Vietnam is niet een land met een grote historie in de autosport. Wel worden evenementen en competitie waaraan nationale teams van het land meedoen met veel passie beleefd. Dat lijkt positief te zijn voor de beleving rond een Formule 1-race en Todt kijkt dan ook uit naar de eerste editie. "Ik kijk ernaar uit om jullie hier over een jaar op de startgrid van de eerste Vietnamese Grand Prix in Hanoi te zien."

Onduidelijkheid over kalender 2020

Hoe de kalender er in 2020 precies uit gaat zien, is nog niet bekend. De contracten van de grands prix in Spanje, Duitsland, Groot-Brittannië, Italië en Mexico lopen na de edities van 2019 af en geen van allen heeft tot nu toe een verlenging van het contract bewerkstelligd. De race in Hanoi wordt in ieder geval aan de kalender toegevoegd, terwijl Zandvoort tot 31 maart de tijd heeft om het contract met Liberty rond te maken.

  Misschien zou het na vandaag kunnen veranderen? De politiek moet zich even netjes houden aan de beloftes voor de gemeenteverkiezingen om misschien vervolg toch "iets" te kunnen doen?

De lay-put van de baan lijkt mij toch interessant. lange rechte stukken, langzame doordraaiers en hele snelle bochten. Daarnaast kan er in April ook nog wel eens wat neerslag vallen, 2 a 3 regenraces mogen er best bij zitten per jaar. UIteindelijk zou dat ook doorslag moeten geven bij een WK
