Jean Manuel Correa heeft de rol van ontwikkelingscoureur bij Alfa Romeo gekregen voor het seizoen 2019.

Correa, die dit jaar deelneemt aan het FIA Formule 2-kampioenschap als onderdeel van het Sauber Junior-team, komt uit voor Charouz Racing System. De campagne van 2019 gaat volgende week van start in Bahrein, als voorprogramma van de Formule 1 Grand Prix.

"Deze kans krijgen en deel uitmaken van zo'n iconisch team en merk is een voorrecht voor iedere coureur", vertelde Correa.

"Ik zal mijn uiterste best doen om de kans die ik heb gekregen naar behoren in te vullen. Ik wil Fred (Vasseur) en het hele Alfa Romeo Racing Team bedanken voor het vertrouwen dat ze in mij hebben. Ik ben enthousiast over wat de toekomst te bieden heeft.

Correa sluit zich aan bij de Colombiaanse Tatiana Calderon als Alfa Romeo's development-driver voor het aankomende jaar.

Alfa Romeo teambaas Vasseur zei: "We zijn heel blij om aan te kondigen dat Juan Manuel zich heeft aangesloten bij Alfa Romeo Racing. Juan Manuel gaat een nieuwe uitdaging aan met ons teams als onze Development-Driver en wij kijken ernaar uit om zijn vaardigheden verder te ontwikkelen ter ondersteuning van zijn vooruitgang als coureur."
