Pierre Gasly waarschuwt voor bandentemperatuur op koudere locaties

Red Bull Racing-Honda coureur Pierre Gasly is van mening dat Formule 1-coureur het moeilijk gaan hebben bij het betreden van de baan in koele condities. Een wijziging in de regels heeft ervoor gezorgd dat de bandentemperatuur in 2019 verlaagd is naar 80 graden Celsuis als ze uit de dekens komen.

De coureurs hadden het moeilijk tijdens de wintertests met de nieuwe regel, Alexander Albon was de eerste die van de baan af spinde. Ook tijdens de 'warmere' Grand Prix van Australië hadden de coureurs moeite op de twintig graden te overbruggen. Formule 1 kende in 2018 nog een limiet van 100 graden als het ging om het voorwerwarmen van de banden.

Gasly geeft uitleg

Gasly gaf na een vraag van Autosport uitleg over zijn situatie tijdens de Grand Prix van Australië waarbij Daniil Kvyat hem direct na zijn pitstop inhaalde: "Ik principe heb ik geremd en kon ik voelen dat ik mijn banden meteen zou blokkeren. Toen ik in bocht drie kwam probeerde ik iets later te remmen. Ik denk dat de banden van Kvyat op dat moment meer bedrijfstemperatuur hadden, daarom kon hij ook makkelijker de move maken."

De Fransman denkt al te weten wat er kan gebeuren tijdens 'koudere' sessies: "Het is duidelijk dat je heen optimaal 'window' hebt als je uit de pits komt. Ik voelde dat het de eerste twee tot drie bochten moeilijker was. Ik denk dat het uiteindelijk nog pittiger gaat worden omdat de temperatuur in Australië vrij hoog was. Coureurs zullen tijdens koude omstandigheden extra alert moeten zijn."

Meningen verdeeld bij andere coureurs

Kevin Magnussen was een andere coureur die de uitdaging, die is ontstaan door de temperatuurlimiet, erkende: "De achterwielen zijn behoorlijk moeilijk te controleren als je uit de pits komt." Lewis Hamilton vertelde dat de wijziging niet zo'n grote impact heeft gehad: "De out-lap was voor mij geen probleem. De banden werken over het algemeen altijd goed in deze regio. Waarschijnlijk waren de dekentemperaturen die we in het verleden hadden toch al te hoog."

Snap niet dat FIA zo zit te jongleren met al die details, maar de coureurs moeten niet zo zeuren. Die moeten ermee leren racen.

So what? Volgende keer heeft hij dat geluk.
Snap niet dat FIA zo zit te jongleren met al die details, maar de coureurs moeten niet zo zeuren. Die moeten ermee leren racen.

  Bij toppers zoals Lewis, Seb of Max zou de langzamere wagen op hardere sloffen de inhaalactie tegen een snellere wagen op zachtere banden nooit geslaagd zijn, maar Gasly liet zich simpelweg het kaas van de brood eten en probeert daar achteraf een excuus voor te bedenken. Ook later er niet direct voorbij komen was ronduit zwak en zou andere rijders niet zijn overkomen.

  Lood om oud ijzer naar mijn idee. Ook degen die tegen een undercut verdedigt heeft een tragere outlap. Degene die al eerder pitte heeft grote kans om DRS te krijgen tegen een wagen met koude banden. Zelf denk ik dat een overcut vrij kansloos is geworden. Wat het natuurlijk al was. De succesvolle overcut van Max zoals in (was het) Baku zie je amper. Dat lukt alleen als degene met een overcut super dominate auto heeft.

Na die pitstop accepteer ik die overtake nog...als was het wel zeer zwak verdedigen.
Al die ronden daarna was hij gewoon veel te slecht/voorzichtig/bang
