Schumacher voelt zich '100 procent klaar' voor eerste Formule 2-race

Er komen een aantal spannende dagen aan voor Mick Schumacher. De Duitser maakt in de komende week zijn debuut in de Formule 2 en in een Formule 1-auto en naar eigen zeggen is hij daar helemaal klaar voor.

Als regerend kampioen in het Europees Formule 3 maakt Schumacher dit seizoen de overstap naar de Formule 2. Komend weekend staan de eerste races van dat kampioenschap op het programma in Bahrein en dat betekent dus de vuurdoop voor de Prema-coureur. Dinsdag mag de coureur van de Ferrari Driver Academy vervolgens voor het eerst plaatsnemen in de Formule 1-bolide van Ferrari, om woensdag te testen voor Alfa Romeo.

In Bahrein sprak Schumacher tegenover GPToday.net uit dat hij zich in eerste instantie vooral zal richten op zijn werkzaamheden in de Formule 2. Daarvoor voelt hij zich goed voorbereid. "Er zijn een hoop dingen die ik moet doen om voorbereid te zijn en dat heb ik bij Prema gedaan. Ik heb veel in de simulator gezeten voor de Formule 2 en natuurlijk ook veel fysieke training gedaan. Ik voel me goed voorbereid en ik ben er 100 procent klaar voor."

Er staat wat druk op Schumacher om goed te presteren. De zoon van zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Michael Schumacher wil echter nog geen duidelijke verwachtingen uitspreken voor zijn Formule 2-seizoen. "Het doel voor mij is echt dat ik zoveel mogelijk wil leren en zoveel mogelijk ervaring wil opdoen. Ook wil ik mijn beste potentieel en de best mogelijke prestaties neerzetten."

Schumacher kan zich zijn eerste echte bezoek aan een grand prix, zo'n 'twee of drie jaar geleden', nog goed herinneren. "Het was beter dan wat ik verwachtte. Het was sneller dan ik verwachtte, de auto’s zagen er geweldig uit. Ik denk ook dat het iets speciaals is om een Formule 1-coureur te zijn, want er zijn maar 20 plaatsen. Als je daar onderdeel van bent, dan bewijst dat dat je goed bent. Het is denk ik iets waar veel mensen van dromen."

  Waarom? De F2 is de opstapklasse naar de F1, ik persoonlijk en waarschijnlijk velen met mee vinden dit wel interessant. Daarnaast gaat de hoofdpersoon van dit artikel volgende week een F1 wagen testen dus..
