Testplannen teams in Bahrein dwarsgezeten door ontbreken regenbanden

Het was een raar gezicht op het Bahrain International Circuit. Tijdens de eerste testdag kwam de regen aan het eind van de ochtend met bakken uit de hemel, waardoor de teams bijna vier uur lang niet op de baan te vinden waren.

Het regent niet vaak in Bahrein, maar tijdens de eerste dag van de in-season tests van 2019 was het dan toch raak. Op het Bahrain International Circuit werd het daardoor na ruim drie uur testen voor een lange periode stil. De teams kwamen niet de baan op en de reden daarvoor is niet dat ze geen schade wilden rijden, maar dat er geen regenbanden op het circuit aanwezig zijn.

De reden voor het ontbreken van de regenbanden in Bahrein ligt bij de teams zelf. Zij geven van tevoren bij Pirelli aan welke banden zij graag willen gebruiken bij de testsessie, waarna de bandenleverancier ervoor zorgt dat deze banden er ook zijn. Geen enkel team heeft voor de test in Bahrein regenbanden besteld bij Pirelli, vermoedelijk omdat zij niet verwacht hadden dat het zou gaan regenen.

Pirelli is op het Bahrain International Circuit ook met prototypes voor 2020 aan het testen, maar desondanks heeft de bandenleverancier geen regenbanden meegenomen naar het circuit. De Italiaanse fabrikant geeft namelijk van elke test aan of het daar slicks of regenbanden gaat testen en in Bahrein is, gezien het klimaat, gekozen voor het testen van de droogweerbanden.

Al vanaf zeker zaterdag was er regen voorspeld ... tijdens de wedstrijd zelfs nog kort daarvoor ...
Dus tja... als je die dingen dan toch bij je hebt (pirelli neemt ze voor een wedstrijd namelijk ALTIJD mee ....) dan kijk je toch minstens ff naar ... [Lees verder]

Wat een aanfluiting weer. Twee in-season tests in een heel jaar en het miljoenencircus vertikt het om 3 containers met regenbanden mee te nemen. Had een data opgeleverd waarvan ze in de fabrieken met de tong uit de mond hadden gezeten. Nu ligt het aan de teams, maar het is al geregeld voorgekomen dat er niet genoeg regenbanden mee zijn genomen door Pirelli zelf waardoor teams binnen moesten blijven om banden over te houden voor de race. Ook in de vrije trainingen zijn de teams al veel data misgelopen. Je krijgt nu eenmaal weinig kansen om te kijken hoe de auto zich onder natte weersomstandigheden houdt. Het is leuker voor de fans als de teams in het diepe worden gegooid tijdens een race, maar vanuit teamperspectief en voor de sport is het lachwekkend dat je steeds naar elkaar moet wijzen omdat er geen materiaal voorhanden is.
