'Silverstone blijft op kalender met veel festiviteiten voor 70 jaar Formule 1'

Het heeft er alle schijn van dat de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië ook na 2019 op de kalender blijft staan. De race van 2020 zou in dat geval gepaard gaan met veel festiviteiten rond het 70-jarig bestaan van de Formule 1.

Silverstone was in 1950 het decor van de eerste Formule 1-race ooit. Aanvankelijk werd de Britse Grand Prix afwisselend op Silverstone en Aintree gehouden, daarna op Silverstone en Brands Hatch en sinds 1987 is de Formule 1 elk jaar te gast op Silverstone. In 2010 zou het circuit van de kalender verdwijnen door een deal van de Formule 1 met Donington Park, maar die deal stortte in elkaar. Daardoor bleef Silverstone de gastheer van de Grand Prix.

'Contract Silverstone in mei ondertekend'

Na afloop van het huidige seizoen loopt het contract van Silverstone met de Formule 1 echter af. Silverstone en de Formule 1 spraken allebei de wens al uit om tot een deal te komen, hoewel het circuit dat niet tegen elke prijs wil. De onderhandelingen over een contract zijn nog gaande, maar volgens Auto, Motor und Sport is een nieuwe overeenkomst dichtbij.

Volgens het Duitse blad wordt er in mei een nieuw contract getekend, dat Silverstone een aantal jaren langer op de kalender zal houden. De oudste Grand Prix van de kalender zal daarmee dus behouden blijven. Daarnaast is er sprake van dat de Formule 1 uitgebreid stil wil staan bij de 70ste verjaardag van de autosportklasse.

Veel festiviteiten voor 70ste verjaardag F1

Over ruim een week staat de 1000ste Grand Prix in de geschiedenis van de Formule 1 op de kalender, maar de festiviteiten rond de Grand Prix van China vallen relatief gezien wat tegen. Volgens Auto, Motor und Sport is er in Shanghai maar één historische auto aanwezig, een Lotus 49 van Jim Clark die door Damon Hill bestuurd gaat worden, omdat de transportkosten hoog zijn en er een streng douanebeleid is in China.

Plannen om oude bolides van Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Williams en Tyrrell naar China te halen, zijn afgeblazen door deze factoren. De verwachting is echter dat dit in 2020 op Silverstone goedgemaakt gaat worden. De verwachting is dat alle nog levende Formule 1-iconen en wereldkampioenen aanwezig zullen zijn bij die festiviteiten.

Amus is een zeer betrouwbare bron, dus dat ziet er goed uit. Overigens doen Max en Rudy van Buren morgen namens team Redline mee aan de 8 uren van Silverstone (simrace). Misschien kan GPvandaag daar ff een linkie van plaatsen als die beschikbaar is please? ;)

Het is zeker te hopen dat Silverstone blijft, is een echt rijderscircuit met prachtige bochten en een enthousiast publiek in een auto en motorsport minnend land.
Monza schijnt ook nog gered te gaan worden met staatssteun maar als dat niet lukt dan mag Imola wat mij betreft ook terugkeren, zijn ook al aan het lobbyen hiervoor
