Nico Rosberg gaat vader niet achterna en zal geen DTM rijden

Wereldkampioen Formule 1 uit 2016, Nico Rosberg, heeft een uitnodiging om als gastcoureur te rijden bij een DTM-race afgewezen. Rosberg, op dit moment analist bij onder andere Sky zou bij een eventuele DTM-race in de voetsporen van zijn vader kunnen treden.

Audi had interesse om Rosberg in te lijven als gastrijder, maar de Duitser bedankte voor de eer: "Dieter Gass van Audi had me gevraagd of ik zin had om dat een keer te doen, ik heb het afgewezen omdat ik het niet ga doen."

Rosberg heeft geen trek om zich helemaal voor te bereiden voor één weekend. De nieuwe generatie DTM-auto's met turbomotor mogen fysiek niet onderschat worden. "Ik krijg dat helaas fysiek niet meer voor elkaar", verklaarde Rosberg aan Autosport. "Ik moest in mijn Formule 1-carrière al zoveel trainen voor mijn handen en armen. Dat ziet er op dit moment niet meer uit."

Toch heeft Rosberg een warme band met het DTM, zijn vader reed onder andere voor Mercedes en Opel: "De sfeer in de paddock bij het DTM is echt geweldig", verklaarde hij.

DTM is op zoek naar speciale dingen in haar kampioenschap. Gerhard Berger is druk in onderhandeling met de Japanse Super GT-klasse om een samenwerking te krijgen. Voor dit seizoen staat er inmiddels al een gecombineerde race op het programma. Berger wil ook met meerdere gastrijders gaan werken, het liefst uit de Formule 1: "Ik geloof niet dat dat een optie is", vertelde Rosberg. "Zij kunnen dat niet combineren, Formule E-coureurs zouden dat overigens wel kunnen", sloot hij af.

  Het interesseert hem niet genoeg. Misschien terug binnen enkele jaren hier en daar een race voor de fun of goed doel, maar het is duidelijk dat hij genoeg heeft van het competitieracen en zich volledig focust op z'n youtube kanaal en andere bedrijven die hij runt.
