Vettel tevreden over samenwerking met Leclerc: "Hij is een goede jongen"

Sebastian Vettel is na twee races tevreden over de samenwerking met Charles Leclerc. De Monegask, die sinds begin dit jaar voor Ferrari rijdt, is volgens de Duitser snel en heeft de juiste ingrediënten om goed te presteren in de Formule 1.

Na een seizoen Formule 2, waarin hij overtuigend de titel won, stroomde Leclerc in 2018 door naar de Formule 1 bij Sauber. Met goede prestaties voor dat team verdiende hij een kans bij Ferrari, het team waarbij hij al jarenlang onderdeel van het opleidingsprogramma af. Na de eerste twee races heeft Vettel weinig te klagen over de samenwerking met zijn nieuwe teamgenoot.

Samenwerking met Leclerc 'normaal'

“Ik weet niet hoeveel je van hem af kan lezen, maar jullie zien denk ik hetzelfde als ik. Het is een goede jongen en hij is snel, dus hij heeft de ingrediënten. Hij heeft al voor hij de Formule 1 binnenkwam bewezen dat hij de plek verdient. Het samenwerken met hem is redelijk normaal."

"Ik weet niet wat jullie je soms voorstellen, maar ik ben nog nooit een coureur tegengekomen die lastig was. Ik hoop ook dat het nooit gebeurt. Voorafgaand aan het seizoen zei ik al dat het een andere uitdaging gaat worden. Buiten dat heeft hij altijd respect getoond als anderen het goed doen. Dat deed hij ook in Bahrein."

Vettel waardeert steun Hamilton

Vettel maakte in Bahrein geen beste beurt. De viervoudig wereldkampioen duelleerde tijdens de race met Lewis Hamilton, maar die strijd eindigde vroeg toen de Duitser spinde. Uiteindelijk eindigde hij de race op P5. Hamilton steunde Vettel na de race en in China kwam de Ferrari-coureur daarop terug. "Misschien is hij de enige zonder kortetermijngeheugen", grapte Vettel.

"Soms vallen dingen even niet jouw kant op, maar het is lastig om daarover te oordelen als je niet precies weet wat er achter de schermen gebeurt. Maar tegenwoordig lijken mensen voor hun oordeel niet verder terug te kijken dan de afgelopen week. Ik wist eigenlijk niet eens dat hij daarna aardige dingen over mij heeft gezegd, maar het is leuk om te horen."

Leclerc is ook zo een coureur waar je onmogelijk een hekel aan kan hebben. Hij is zeer volwassen voor zijn leeftijd. Hij is bloedsnel óp de baan en in de auto, en erg kalm en professioneel buiten de auto. Daar kun je alleen maar respect voor hebben.

Tja, wat moet je anders zeggen.
Leclerc is ook zo een coureur waar je onmogelijk een hekel aan kan hebben. Hij is zeer volwassen voor zijn leeftijd. Hij is bloedsnel óp de baan en in de auto, en erg kalm en professioneel buiten de auto. Daar kun je alleen maar respect voor hebben.
Hoe hij zijn tegenslag verwerkte na de vorige race vond ik getuigen van pure klasse.

  Dan zat ik er gewoon maanden naast want ik dacht oprecht dat het Alesi was, mede omdat Clemenza ongeveer online kwam toen Alesi offline ging.
  
  Ik weet overigens niet of je mijn post na de vorige race nog gelezen had, maar je had inderdaad volkomen gelijk en mijn aanname dat Ferrari Vettel zou helpen was te voorbarig. En ik ben blij dat ik er helemaal naast zat want het was prachtig dat Leclerc voor eigen succes mocht gaan. Ik hoop dat dat een heel seizoen lang zo blijft!

  Denk dat Sebastiaan wel wat zwijgzamer zal gaan worden met het geven van informatie hij had dit natuurlijk niet verwacht en wil zijn droom om met Ferrari kampioen te worden niet in gevaar brengen door Charles te slim te maken .

Toch vind ik het afwachten met die Charles . Pas op het eind van het seizoen zullen we weten of het inderdaad z'n aardige jongen is of dat hij zelf is verrast door zijn optreden .
