George Russell: "Wij hebben grote problemen met het gedrag van de auto"

Mercedes-junior en huidig Williams Formule 1-coureur heeft aangegeven dat hij en teamgenoot Robert Kubica grote problemen hebben bij het ingaan van de bochten. Het duo kan hierdoor niet competitief zijn in hun jacht op punten.

Voor de derde race op rij eindigde beide Williams-coureurs de wedstrijd als laatste en één-na-laatse. In alle gevallen eindigde George Russell voor Robert Kubica. Russell, die onder de indruk is benadrukte wat het probleem zou kunnen zijn: "Op dit moment hebben Robert en ik grote problemen met de handeling van de auto bij het ingaan van de bocht. Ook hebben wij het probleem dat we de auto in het midden van de bocht niet de juiste snelheid kunnen geven", verklaarde Russell.

"Het is op elk gebied heel anders, dat maakt het rijden ontzettend moeilijk. Het is een aerodynamisch probleem, maar ook een mechanisch probleem. Ik schat de verhoudingen op 75:25. We zullen met updates komen, maar dat doet elk team. Het is niet zo dat we iets speciaals zullen hebben."

De jonge Brit is nog niet tevreden over zichzelf: "Ik ben er zeker niet in geslaagd om de kwalificatie in de laatste races te verbeteren en ik denk dat ik de beperkingen van de auto nog steeds moet leren begrijpen en respecteren", sloot hij af.

    Claire zou moeten opstappen, ze is duidelijk niet geschikt bevonden. Daarnaast moet Williams radicaal het roer omgooien. Krimp het team in en koop zoveel mogelijk kant-en-klare onderdelen bij Mercedes in. Natuurlijk gaat dat tegen hun natuur in (ze willen constructeur blijven en alle touwtjes in handen blijven houden) maar de realiteit is dat ze al jaren op een doodlopend spoor zitten. Als ze niet radicaal veranderen zijn ze straks gewoon exit. Al is het je eer te na: kopieer voor nu gewoon het Haas model. Dan weet je dat je tenminste weer ergens in de middenmoot zit. Kun je daarna altijd nog weer besluiten om bepaalde onderdelen zelf te gaan ontwerpen.

      Wouter, daar ben ik het helemaal mee eens. Doorgaan op de huidige manier leidt tot een permanente veroordeling tot hekkensluiter van elke GP. Dat moet je als team niet willen. Ik vermoed echter dat Claire met de sponsorgelden die ze nu heeft het uit kan zingen totdat de nieuwe reglementen ingaan in 2021. Tegen die tijd gelden er andere verdelingen van de opbrengsten, zal er een budgetplafond zijn en zullen veranderingen aan de auto's leiden tot een mogelijke reset van het krachtenveld (mede ook door standaardisatie van bepaalde onderdelen).

      Claire moet een onderdirecteur aan stellen die meer inzicht heeft in benodigheden en personeel. Claire kan prima financiele zaken nog regelen zo blijkt keer op keer weer met uit den duvel toch sponsoren aan te trekken, maar er is overduidelijk was mis met de groep die op de vloer rond loopt. Commercieel gezien is claire top. zeker. Ze is alleen niet geschikt om de technische kant te leiden.

    De familie Mazepin heeft interesse in Williams nadat het vorig jaar niet lukte om Force India over te nemen.
    Nikita heeft nu echter nog wel te weinig licentiepunten (21) dus moet nog aan het werk dit seizoen in F2.

      No way dat Williams hun team in de uitverkoop doen. Williams is veel meer dan een F1 team.

      Gewoon weer winst behaald hoor door technologie te verkopen aan ziekenhuizen, elektronica giganten, Jaguar en volgens mij nog een engels motormerk. Ik weet niet zeker of t nou Triumph was... Geld is het probleem niet. Kunde in de fabriek is het grootste probleem.

    Had ook zo'n idee dat het niet lekker gaat... Knap hoor, als je een auto ontwerpt die langzamer is als dat hok van het vorig seizoen. Gun Williams het allerbeste en hopelijk vinden ze de weg naar boven weer.

      Vooral als je bedenkt dat de 2018 auto... langzamer was dan de 2017 auto in Australie ;) die Auto van 2019 is niet eens moeite in gestoken lijkt t wel.
