Makino op pole tijdens Super Formula-debuut

Formule 2-racewinnaar Tadasuke Makino staat op pole position voor de eerste Super Formula-race die morgen op het circuit van Suzuka plaats zal vinden. Makino versloeg in de kwalificatie Nakajima Racing-teamgenoot Alex Palou.

Palou had tijdens Q1 en Q2 de snelste tijd gereden, Makino was echter de laatste coureur die in Q3 over de streep kwam en bleef zijn teamgenoot 0.029 seconden voor. Nakajima Racing start daarom morgen met beide auto's vanaf de eerste rij. Het was de eerste pole voor het team van Satoru Nakajima in negen jaar tijd. Takashi Kogure wist in 2010 de Nakajima-auto op pole te zetten in Motegi.

Regerend kampioen en beoogd Honda-testcoureur Noaki Yamamoto zal als derde van start gaan. Nirei Fukuzumi zal als vierde starten. De eerste vier plaatsen op de grid worden volledig in beslag genomen door Honda-motoren.

Daniel Ticktum, Red Bull-coureur, gaf tijdens de kwalificatie niet thuis. De Britse coureur mag de race als zestiende aanvangen. Ticktum was gisteren nog goed van start gegaan tijdens de vrije trainingen, hierbij was de junior derde. Harrison Newey kende een spin bij het uitkomen van Spoon en zal in het achterveld van start gaan.

De Super Formula-races zijn tegenwoordig live te volgen via YouTube. De nieuwe zender 'Lets go Racing' van Sam Collins heeft de 'rechten' voor de stream in zijn bezit. Vanaf morgenvroeg is de eerste race live op hun kanaal te zien, voorzien van Engels commentaar.
