Raikkonen haalt uit naar FIA: "We zagen eruit als amateurs"

Kimi Raikkonen haalt hard uit naar de FIA en het Baku City Circuit na de afgelasting van de eerste vrije training. De Alfa Romeo-coureur meent dat de Formule 1 er als 'een stel amateurs' uitzag op de vrijdag in Azerbeidzjan.

De eerste vrije training in Bakoe was nog geen kwartier onderweg toen een losliggende putdeksel voor chaos zorgde. George Russell reed met zijn Williams vol over het deksel heen, wat voor veel schade aan de FW42 zorgde. De FIA besloot vervolgens om de rest van de eerste training af te gelasten, zodat alle putdeksels op het circuit gecontroleerd konden worden op eventuele problemen.

'Ieder jaar hetzelfde liedje'

De tweede vrije training kon vervolgens op tijd aanvangen, maar het kwaad was volgens Raikkonen al geschied. De wereldkampioen van 2007 meent dat de sport er amateuristisch uitzag op de vrijdag in Bakoe. "Het was duidelijk verre van ideaal voor iedereen en we zagen er als een stel amateurs uit. Zo zou het niet moeten zijn. Het is aan de FIA om ervoor te zorgen dat het circuit is zoals het hoort te zijn."

"Het lijkt er op dat er ieder jaar wat putdeksel of dergelijke dingen los komen te liggen. Dat maakte het vandaag verre van ideaal. Het is aan hen om het te controleren en het aan de mensen hier te vertellen. Het is hun verantwoordelijkheid om het circuit in een staat te hebben die verwacht wordt. Gelukkig raakte er niemand gewond, maar het verprutste voor iedereen de dag. Ook voor de mensen die kwamen kijken, is dit verre van ideaal."

Raikkonen kwam in de tweede vrije training niet verder dan de veertiende tijd, waarmee hij langzamer was dan teamgenoot Antonio Giovinazzi. Volgens de ervaren Fin is het nog niet mogelijk om conclusies aan de activiteiten van de vrijdag te hangen. "Het was een verwarrende dag. Dat is jammer. Ik denk dat het belangrijk is om de banden aan het werk te krijgen en dan zullen we zien waar we uiteindelijk eindigen."

Nuchtere conlusie, die baanmarshalls zijn ook zo amateuritisch als de pleures. Lijkt wel of ze die gewoon van de markt geplukt hebben, en een vlag in de klauwen hebben gedrukt. Jopie de ijzerboer mag zijn takelwagentje besturen, nou we hebben gezien dat dat een groot succes was.
