Marko wil vrouwen toch kans bieden: "Misschien winnares W Series laten testen"

Helmut Marko is teruggekomen op zijn uitspraak dat vrouwen niet in staat zijn om de Formule 1 te bereiken. De Oostenrijker stelt verkeerd begrepen te zijn en doet zelfs een handreiking naar de toekomstige winnares van de W Series.

Vorige week vertelde Marko nog aan Kleine Zeitung dat hij op korte termijn geen vrouwen in de Formule 1 verwacht. Hij meende destijds dat vrouwen fysiek niet in staat zijn om de G-krachten in een Formule 1-bolide aan te kunnen. Daarnaast gaf de talentscout van Red Bull Racing aan dat er in andere sporten, zoals het tennis, ook geen wedstrijden gespeeld worden waarbij een man het tegen een vrouw moet opnemen.

Red Bull overweeg vrouwen kans te geven

In Bakoe bond Marko echter in. Tegenover Sky Sports F1 stelt hij in dat eerdere gesprek verkeerd begrepen te zijn, maar dat hij op korte termijn nog geen vrouw in de Formule 1 verwacht. "Ik zei dat in een publiek gesprek met driehonderd mensen, waarbij veel vragen kwamen van vrouwen, dus ik denk dat ik verkeerd begrepen ben. Ik zei dat ik op het moment geen vrouw zie die competitief kan zijn in de Formule 1."

Marko kreeg na zijn uitspraken in de Kleine Zeitung veel kritiek op zijn uitspraken. Onder meer de organisatie achter de W Series kon zich niet vinden in de woorden die de Oostenrijker gebruikte. Inmiddels lijkt Marko vrouwen wel een kans te willen geven en hij wil als het mogelijk is zelfs iets faciliteren voor de winnares van de autosportklasse voor vrouwen. "Laten we het zien. De nieuwe W Series komt eraan, misschien kunnen we de winnaar in een auto zetten en zien waar ze staat."

Christian Horner lijkt bereid te zijn om mee te werken aan het idee van Marko. "Vanuit het perspectief van Red Bull zien we graag dat er meer meiden in de sport komen. Het liefst zien we er één in de Formule 1 en is ze ook nog competitief. Helmut bedoelde meer dat er nu niemand is die competitief kan zijn in de Formule 1. Daarvoor moeten volgens mij meer meisjes betrokken raken bij karting. De groep moet groter worden, want dan komen de kansen vanzelf."

Eerst iets zeggen en daarna pas beginnen nadenken.
Of je het nu verteld aan 3 of 300 mensen, de redenering blijft krom.

Nou op zich wel slim ... Red Bull draait op marketing en reken er maar op dat dit heel veel aandacht genereert. En wie weet zit er een vrouwelijke topper tussen zo niet ... dan heb je de kans toch geboden en je marketing doeleinden gehaald ;)

  die zal wel in RB programma komen :) zou honda wel leuk vinden :) Maar is wel bekend vrouwen zijn beter in multitasken :) past in de huidge F1, er zijn coureurs die daar niet goed in zijn en achtuit tegen iemand aanbotsen :)

  @JV fan: ze won nog wel een race met die gebroken wervel. Gelukkig heeft BMW haar inmiddels aan boord gehaald. Rijdt inmiddels GT4, VLN series en kan behalve W Series ook de FE en DTM auto's testen.
