Chadwick wint eerste W Series-race op Hockenheim, Visser vierde

De eerste race in het bestaan van de W Series is gewonnen door Jamie Chadwick. De Britse rijdster met nummer 55 kon gedurende de hele race eigenlijk niet bedreigd worden door Alice Powell en Marta Garcia. Beitske Visser klom uiteindelijk op naar P4.

Na een kwalificatie onder natte omstandigheden was het asfalt wel droog bij de start van de eerste W Series-race. Chadwick wist haar pole position meteen om te zetten in de leiding, maar die verloor ze in de hairpin aan Sarah Moore door iets door te schieten. Voor Emma Kimilainen verliep de start ook niet zoals gehoopt. De Finse had vanaf P4 een zeer slechte start, viel ver terug en werd in de hairpin getorpedeerd door Megan Gilkes. Beide coureurs stapten ongeschonden uit, maar de safety car was wel nodig om het circuit op te ruimen.

Moore valt ver terug bij herstart

Moore leidde het veld tijdens de herstart, maar lang kon ze daar niet van genieten. De Britse werd al na de eerste bocht ingehaald door Chadwick. Achter de leider ontstond richting de hairpin een gevecht voor P2, dat gewonnen werd door Powell. Garcia wist daar beslag te leggen op de derde positie, voor Visser. De Nederlandse was vanaf de achtste positie gestart, maar toonde bij de herstart aan dat ze doortastend was en wist zo meerdere plekken te pakken.

Aanvankelijk liepen Chadwick en Powell weg bij Garcia, die op haar beurt weer uitliep op Visser. Halverwege de 30 minuten durende race wist Garcia echter het gat naar de koploopsters te verkleinen, terwijl Chadwick iets begon weg te rijden van Powell. Er zouden echter tot en met de finish geen positiewisselingen meer plaatsvinden in de top.

Chadwick werd zodoende dus de eerste winnares in de W Series en op het podium werd zij geflankeerd door Powell en Garcia. Achter Visser eindigde Moore op P5, gevolgd door Fabienne Wohlwend. Miki Koyama werd na een inhaalrace vanaf P17 zevende, terwijl Tasmin Pepper van P16 opklom naar P8. De laatste punten werden gescoord door Gosia Rdest en Caitlin Wood.

Einde was wel wat saai, maar dat is in Formule 3 ook vaak. Chadwick, García zijn de 2 grootste talenten denk ik, al deed koyama het ook verrassend goed

Chadwick, García en Visser lijken me de grootste kanshebbers op de titel maar Visser is wel al wat ouder.

En die Vicky Piria (klinkt als wikipedia) is wel een persoonlijk favoriet, jammer dat ze niet zo snel is

Netjes gedaan van Visser. Rustig gebleven bij de start, een aantal mooie uitremacties gemaakt bij de hairpin, even aan de derde plek geroken en vervolgens goed haar plek verdedigd ten opzichte van Moore en Wohlwend. Ze zit consistent in de top 5 dus dit is een mooi resultaat, zeker gezien haar wat ongelukkige kwalificatie.

@ red slow
Via Ziggo sport ook te zien mits je abonnement hebt. Was te zien via Ziggo race en ik dacht niet via Ziggo select....select is vrij kanaal voor Ziggo klanten.
En waarschijnlijk is er nog wel een andere optie maar mij dan niet bekend.

  De verslaggeving van Ziggo was wel erg rommelig. Veel geluidsproblemen (kan ook aan de regie op het circuit liggen) en een commentator die duidelijk niet geïnteresseerd was en totaal niet zat op te letten wat er op het circuit gebeurde.
