Schumacher geen liefhebber van simracen: "Zit alleen bij team in simulator"

De generatie jonge coureurs is vaak niet weg te slaan uit de simulator. Mick Schumacher lijkt een uitzondering op die regel te zijn, want de Formule 2-coureur heeft niets met het simracen en zit alleen in de voorbereiding op races in de simulator.

Jonge coureurs als Max Verstappen en Lando Norris zijn helemaal verkocht aan het online racen. Zij hebben thuis hun eigen simulator staan, waarin ze oefenen voor de aankomende Grands Prix en zich online met andere simracers meten. Beide coureurs deden dit jaar al mee aan online enduranceraces. Schumacher zal dat niet snel doen, want hij kruipt thuis nooit echt in de simulator.

"Eerlijk gezegd niet. Als ik thuis ben, zit ik eigenlijk nooit in de simulator of iets dergelijks. Als ik het wel doe, dan is dat bij het team en dan geldt dat voor mij als een fatsoenlijke voorbereiding. Daar verzamel ik dan data en alle belangrijke punten om voorbereid te zijn. Thuis loop ik mijn notities nogmaals door, zodat ik klaar ben voor de vrije trainingen zodra ik op het circuit aankom."

Schumacher graag actief bezig en kijkt oude video's

Een ander onderdeel van Schumachers voorbereiding op races is het kijken van oude racevideo's. "Ik kijk graag naar oude racevideo's. Ik pak dan video's van bijvoorbeeld vorig jaar en kijk waar de beste kansen zijn om in te halen of wat de beste strategie is. Daarna probeer ik te kijken hoe ik dat voor mezelf kan gebruiken. Dat zijn video's van de Formule 1, Formule 2, Formule 3, eigenlijk van alles."

Wat doet Schumacher dan wel graag om zich óf voor te bereiden op races óf zich te ontspannen? Het antwoord daarop is simpel volgens de coureur uit het opleidingsprogramma van Ferrari: hij is graag actief bezig. De Duitser meent dat hij zich op deze manier ook mentaal een stuk beter traint dan in de simulator.

"Ik ga veel liever trainen, een stuk fietsen of naar de sportschool. Ik ben liever fysiek bezig, want dat is voor mij ook goed voor de mentale kant van het verhaal. Daardoor heb ik niet het gevoel dat ik online moet racen. Als ik een hele dag vrij ben, dan vind ik het lekker om een stuk te lopen met mijn hond. Daarnaast hou ik ervan om te surfen, maar door het gevaar op blessures doe ik dat liever als ik een langere periode vrijaf heb."

Denk dat jongens als Max en Lando stiekem veel opsteken van de hele tijd sim racen, Max zegt zelf dat ie op die manier wel is inhaal moves oefent.

Heb zelf niets met gamen, online racen of wat dan ook, nooit gehad..
Maar ik ben ervan overtuigd dat het voor jonge coureurs, zie Norris en Verstappen bijvoorbeeld, een absolute meerwaarde is.
Aangezien geld geen rol speelt kan Mick thuis een geweldige setup neerzetten, ik zou als ik hem was toch proberen het heel erg leuk te gaan vinden..

  zal ook ongetwijfeld zo zijn ja, nu alleen nog dagelijks gebruiken, in zijn situatie zou ik er niet achter vandaan te slaan zijn...
  Misschien heeft hij dat wel van zijn vader, die had al niks met simulator werk, maar ja dat waren andere tijden

  Michael stamt uit de tijd van de Commodore 64 en de Atari.
  Daar kon je met een beetje moeite het (voor die periode grafische hoogstandje) "pong" op spelen (tennis simulatie) en daarna hield het wel een beetje op.

Tja hier heeft hij wel een punt vind ik, alleen baan kennis, het is net als de schietspellen 20 jaar geleden was het al niet realistisch en nu nog steeds niet.
