Russell en Kubica wisselen van chassis voor Spaanse Grand Prix

ROKiT Williams heeft de chassis van haar coureurs, George Russell en Robert Kubica, geruild voor de Spaanse Grand Prix. Russell zal actief zijn in de auto waarmee zijn Poolse-teamgenoot de eerste vier wedstrijden van het seizoen mee reed. Tijdens een moeilijke start van het seizoen heeft Kubica geklaagd over de verschillen tussen zijn auto en die van Russell. Russell bevestigde in een eerder stadium het verschil.

Kubica had goede hoop dat er vanaf dit weekend geen herhaling zou komen en na de vrijdagtraining in Barcelona vertelde Russell dat de eerdere verschillen tussen beide auto's te wijten waren aan een probleem met de sensor. Russell verklaarde ook dat beide coureurs nu toch al verschillende chassis gebruiken. Hij vertelde dat Kubica een nieuw chassis zou krijgen en de Pool het chassis zou krijgen waar Russell de race in Azerbeidzjan mee reed.

"Er is een nieuw chassis dat Robert heeft gekregen", vertelde Russell. "Dat was altijd al het plan", voegde hij eraan toe. "Omdat mijn chassis beschadigd was door de putdeksel in Baku, heb ik nu Robert's chassis gekregen."

Kubica ongelukkig over tweede vrije training

Ondanks de veranderingen in het chassis en de kleine updates was Kubica ongelukkig met zijn auto tijdens de tweede vrije training. De Pool was de langzaamste van allemaal in de tweede training en gaf uiteindelijk 2.497 seconden toe op Valtteri Bottas. "In de eerste vrije training was het gevoel niet slecht en reden wij ons programma. In de tweede vrije training voelde de auto niet zo goed. We moeten nu de reden begrijpen, maar over het algemeen is het best goed. We moesten uit voorzorg ongeveer 30 minuten eerder stoppen om een deel van de auto te veranderen, hierdoor waren wij niet in staat om ons programma af te ronden", vertelde Kubica.

"Tijdens de eerste vrije training voelde de auto een beetje beter. Ik denk dat ik hier geen voordeel van de updates heb gehad en dat de auto niet zo sterk verschilt van de vorige races."

Russell reed uiteindelijk een kleine drie seconden langzamer dan Bottas, maar was tevreden over zijn dag: "Het was eigenlijk beter dan verwacht", vertelde hij. "Het zijn kleine positieve dingen om mee te nemen. We leren op dit moment van de dingen die wij hebben getest. Ik denk dat het normaal is dat iedereen een grote update naar Barcelona meebrengt, maar we testen na de Grand Prix nog een aantal dingen en hierdoor willen wij een beter beeld krijgen van de auto."

"Ik denk niet dat iemand een update zou brengen die groot genoeg is om ons van achter naar voren te brengen. De test die we vandaag hebben gedaan was zeer positief en het heeft ons een goed inzicht gegeven", sloot de huidige Formule 2-kampioen af.

Kubica kan het duidelijk niet meer aan. Hij is veuls te langzaam, en maakt daarbij ook nog eens veuls teveel domme fouten.

  Als de auto zo snel was als bijvoorbeeld McLaren of Toro Rosso had iedereen gezegt wat een giga talent die Russel en wat mooi dat Kubica nog kan vechten voor punten na zo'n ongeluk. Ik heb geen goed woord over voor hoe Williams nu het team aan het runnen is. Het gaat gewoon niet met de tijd mee en bouwen alles nog zelf, ondanks dat dit duidelijk niet meer de manier is. Ik zeg niet dat ze alles moeten uitbesteden... ik bedoel... hun accu/elektrische afdeling is wel goed.

Kubica kan wisselen wat ie wil, maar hij kan gewoon niet meer mee. Het is een sneu verhaal en iedere grand prix wordt het triester.
