Michael Masi blijft F1 wedstrijdleider tot aan de zomerstop

Begin dit jaar kwam de Formule 1-paddock in shock toen F1 wedstrijdleider Charlie Whiting plotseling overleed op de donderdag voor de Grand Prix van Australië. Michael Masi was al plaatsvervangend racedirecteur en werd tijdelijk door de FIA aangesteld om Charlie Whiting te vervangen.

Voor onbepaalde tijd kreeg Masi de baan van Whiting, die samen met de Amerikaan Scot Elkins opgeleid werd door Whiting. Zowel Masi als Elkins zouden opgeleid worden bij zowel Formule 1 als Formule E-wedstrijden en gedurende het seizoen af en toe roteren.

Michael Masi blijft voorlopig wedstrijdleider in F1

Nog altijd is het niet duidelijk hoe de FIA een definitieve vervanger van Whiting wil gaan bepalen als wedstrijdleider, maar in eerste instantie zou Masi de wedstrijden leiden tot aan de Grand Prix van Canada. In Canada zou Elkins de kans krijgen. GPToday.net verneemt in de paddock van Barcelona dat de FIA nu echter heeft beslist om Michael Masi tot aan de zomerstop, dus inclusief de Grand Prix van Hongarije, op zijn positie te laten als F1 wedstrijdleider. Daarna zal de FIA de beslissing mogelijk herzien.
