Mercedes breidt eerbetoon aan Lauda uit met rode halo in Monaco

Voor een aantal teams is de Grand Prix van Monaco dit weekend een belangrijke bijzaak. Ferrari, McLaren en Mercedes zijn in gedachten vooral bij het overlijden van Niki Lauda en zijn daarom voor de race in het prinsdom met een eerbetoon gekomen.

Ferrari, McLaren, Haas F1 en Mercedes reden op de donderdag al met een eerbetoon rond. Ferrari, het team waarmee Lauda zijn eerste twee wereldtitels pakte had op de deflectoren voor de sidepods de naam 'Niki Lauda' geplakt, terwijl Sebastian Vettel met een op Lauda's helm geïnspireerde helm reed.

McLaren gooide het met haar eerbetoon aan Lauda over een andere boeg. Het Britse team plakte een sticker van een kampioenschapskrans op haar bolide met daarbij de woorden Niki Lauda, zijn geboorte- en overlijdensjaren en 1984, het jaar dat de Oostenrijker kampioen werd met McLaren.

Mercedes reed op de donderdag al met een eerbetoon aan Lauda op de bolide rond. Op de bovenkant van monocoque werd in het rood de handtekening van de drievoudig wereldkampioen geplaatst, terwijl een van de zilverpijlen op het bodywork rood gekleurd werd. Voor de rest van het weekend breidt Mercedes haar eerbetoon uit, want op de vrijdag werden de zilveren bolides met een rode halo gespot. Op de halo staat ook de tekst 'Niki, we miss you'.

Redelijk off-topic:
Zag dat Alfa Romeo (sportscars) held en Lauda redder van weleer Arturo Merzario Max Verstappen het schoolvoorbeeld van een verwend nest vindt :) :) Kon het alleen niet uit het interview halen.

  Ja en? Max heeft al meer gewonnen dan die haterige italiaan. Ik heb begrepen dat hij lauda heeft geholpen. En dan ben je een held hoor maar begin dan niet over Max zijn rij gedrag.

  Het staat er als kop bij maar het interview gaat alleen over Lauda.
  Merzario is niet type hater maar nog een echte gladiator van het oude stempel.

Eerbetoon aan Niki Lauda is goed en meer dan terecht maar uitgerekend met een rode Halo vind ik ongepast aangezien Niki een luidruchtig tegenstander was van de Halo. Zie ook het 'ja/nee' interview van hem met Olav en Jack eind 2017.
