Liberty wil 75 procent van de races op open tv-kanalen laten uitzenden

Liberty Media gaat alles op alles zetten om zoveel mogelijk races op tv-kanalen te laten uitzenden die voor iedereen beschikbaar zijn. Dat maakte commerciële baas Sean Bratches duidelijk in een gesprek met Daily Mail.

Het gaat al jaren niet goed met de kijkcijfers van de Formule 1. Het aantal kijkers nam in de afgelopen jaren steevast af en de grote drijfveer daarachter was de beweging van de uitzendingen naar televisiezenders die niet tot het open net behoren. Veel fans waren niet in de positie om dat extra zenderpakket te kopen, waardoor de kijkcijfers in vele landen een neergaande trend lieten zien. De huidige dominantie van Mercedes helpt daar ook niet bij.

Liberty lijkt niet blij te zijn met het feit dat in steeds meer landen de Formule 1 achter de decoder verdwijnt, een trend die ingezet werd onder het bewind van Bernie Ecclestone. Daar moet een einde aan gemaakt worden volgens Bratches. "Het is voor ons een punt van zorgen, niet alleen in Groot-Brittannië maar over de hele wereld."

"Het ideale plaatje voor ons zou zijn om 75 procent van de Grands Prix op het open net te vertonen. Vanuit het oogpunt van een merk is de Formule 1 niet in de buurt van de positie om kijkers op het open net te verliezen. Dit is een overeenkomst die voor ons aantreden tot stand is gekomen. Qua opbrengsten is betaal-tv erg interessant, maar qua bereik is het verre van optimaal. Ik weet dat Sky een samenwerking met Channel 4 heeft voor de samenvattingen en dat is bemoedigend."

Liberty wil meer onvoorspelbaarheid voor betere kijkcijfers

Bratches liet zich ook uit over de dominantie van Mercedes. Hoewel de man van Liberty bewondering heeft voor de prestaties van het Duitse team, zegt hij wel dat het de kijkcijfers schaadt. "Een van de dingen die we proberen te doen is het onvoorspelbaarder maken van de sport. Ik kijk met bewondering naar de zeges van Lewis Hamilton, maar ik zou graag ook wat andere teams op het podium zien."

"De drie onderste teams in de Premier League weten dat ze de titel niet gaan winnen, maar ze kunnen wel winnen of gelijkspelen tegen Manchester City en Chelsea. In de Formule 1 is dat niet het geval. Er is een kans om dat aan te pakken. We denken dat de beste dagen voor ons liggen en om dat te bereiken, hebben we in Ross Brawn een van de beste personen in huis."

Ziggo is Liberty en gedeeltelijk betaal tv. Ik heb geen Ziggo thuis dus betaal extra bij KPN. Maar Talpa word partner van Zandvoort wat mij doet denken, helemaal als ik de reclame op Veronica hoor, dat Talpa meer met de F1 gaat doen. Zou het zo kunnen zijn dat Veronica een soort RTL plus word met reclame blokken middenin de race en Ziggo gewoon blijft zonder reclame maar tegen extra kosten vind ik dat een mooie oplossing. Dit geld natuurlijk alleen voor Nederland waarbij je weer een probleem krijgt als de BBC de F1 weer gaat uitzenden want dan switch ik naar de BBC. Dan verdiend niemand er wat aan als ik F1 kijk op de BBC behalve KPN waar ik mijn abonnement heb.

Dat ze dingen achter de Decoder meer Exclussief dus ook meer je rijder volgen, vrijetrainingen qualificaties.. Dat de races gewoon open blijven is prima.. regie suck meestal toch maar is dan open :)
