Ericsson jaagt op testdag voor Alfa Romeo na podium in IndyCar

Marcus Ericsson is nog altijd betrokken bij het Formule 1-team van Alfa Romeo. De IndyCar-coureur hoopt dan ook een testdag bij het team te krijgen in 2019, zodat hij op de hoogte blijft van de laatste ontwikkelingen in de sport.

Afgelopen weekend maakte Ericsson een prima indruk tijdens de IndyCar-races op het stratencircuit van Detroit. In de tweede race van het weekend pakte de Zweed zijn eerste podiumplaats in de klasse door tweede te worden achter regerend kampioen Scott Dixon. Dat resultaat behaalde hij onder het toeziend oog van tien werknemers van Alfa Romeo, het team waarvan Ericsson nog steeds de reservecoureur is.

Test goed om voorbereid te zijn op invalbeurt

Ericsson heeft tot op heden nog geen meter gereden in de Alfa Romeo, maar dat is iets wat hij wel graag zou willen. Dat vertelde hij aan RACER, waaruit blijkt dat hij nog steeds hoopt op een toekomst in de Formule 1. "Ik hoop dat ik op een moment tijdens dit seizoen een test kan doen, zodat ik op de hoogte blijf van de auto's. Dat is waar ik voor aan het pushen ben als ik met het team praat, het proberen om in de auto plaats te nemen voor een testdag."

"Er is nog niets bevestigd, maar zover ik weet is het plan dat ik zal proberen naar een aantal van de races op de Formule 1-kalender te gaan nadat mijn seizoen hier afgelopen is. Dat is het mooie aan de IndyCars - het eindigt in september en ik kan daarna alsnog naar een paar Formule 1-races gaan. Dat is volgens mij het plan en vanuit dat punt zien we het wel."

Rijden op een vrijdag lijkt er echter niet in te zitten voor Ericsson en dat weet hij zelf ook. "Er is nog niets besloten, maar dat is waar ik voor ga. Ik ben nog steeds de reserve, dus het zou logisch zijn om wat tijd op de baan door te brengen voor het geval er iets gebeurt, maar het is lastig een VT1 van een coureur af te nemen. Ik kijk meer naar het doen van een test om me daarna te focussen op hoe ik het hier doe."

Hoezo hardleers.
Jaren meegereden in de F1. Door elke teamgenoot aan gort gereden, zelfs door rookies. Hij is echt wel de laatste comeback waar ik op zit te wachten.

  Eens maar ik moet zeggen dat hij zijn niveau naast Leclerc wel heeft weten te verhogen en deed hij het beter dan ik had verwacht.

  Met de data en afstellingen van Charles in de goed bestuurbare Alfa leek het iets beter te gaan idd. De jaren daarvoor worden echter niet vergeten en uitgewist. Bovendien werd hij wel gewoon dik geklopt door rookie Charles.

  Giovanazzi doet het tot nu toe nog niet beter dan Marcus. Van mij mag Marcus wel terugkomen. Al zou ik als ik hem was proberen om een vaste waarde in IndyCar te worden.

  Weer terug zou misschien zelfs wel schadelijk zijn voor zn imago dat in F1 niet indrukwekkend is. Een van de traagste rijders daar. Waar ie nu zit kan ie veel succesvoller zijn.

Als de grid zou bestaan uit Palmers en Strolls dan kan ik zijn ambitie nog wel begrijpen. Hij is niet goed genoeg gebleken voor de F1. Wat nog steeds betekent dat hij kan sturen natuurlijk. Alles is relatief wat dat betreft. Ik zie hem wel winnen op mijn lokale kartbaantje...

  Dus je maakt met je denigrerende opmerking de insinuatie dat de IndyCars niks zijn?
  Zover ik het goed heb gezien, reed Ericsson een prima Indy 500 debuut. Iets wat een tweevoudig Formule 1 kampioen niet kan zeggen.

  Hoe bedoel je, @Beri? Je had even gemist dat die voormalig wereldkampioen bij z'n debuut de beste in de rookie-test was, en zich voor de Top 9 Shootout had gekwalificeerd? En op een utstekende positie lag toen ie door motorproblemen uitviel? Geen garantie voor een goed eindresultaat, maar toch echt een prima Indy 500 debuut.

  Het is niet denigrerend bedoeld. Ericsson zat op de F1 grid onder de middenmoot. Ik insinueer niks over de NTT IndyCar series. En je voorbeeld klopt niet.
