Kvyat: "Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve goede test voor progressie Honda"

Honda krijgt komend weekend een echte test voor de kiezen volgens Daniil Kvyat. De Toro Rosso-coureur is benieuwd hoe de krachtbron van de Japanners ervoor staat op het vlak van de topsnelheid in Canada.

Kvyat is bezig met een prima seizoen bij zijn terugkeer in de Formule 1. De Rus is na een seizoen afwezigheid terug bij Toro Rosso en verzamelde tot nu toe in drie van de zes races punten, waaronder in de laatste twee Grands Prix in Spanje en Monaco. Kvyat lijkt in een goede vorm te steken en hij hoopt die positieve lijn dan ook door te kunnen trekken richting het weekend op het Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

Daarnaast is Kvyat benieuwd hoe de Honda-motor ervoor staat qua topsnelheid, een vlak waar ze jarenlang tegen een achterstand aankeken. "Tot nu toe is mijn seizoen redelijk goed gegaan en hopelijk nemen we dat momentum hier mee naartoe. Dit circuit is uniek en het zal een goede test zijn voor onze krachtbron wat betreft onze snelheid op de rechte stukken. We kijken ernaar uit", vertelt hij in een preview op de website van ExxonMobil.

Ook Max Verstappen is benieuwd wat Honda aan topsnelheid kan brengen in Canada. De Red Bull-coureur put veel hoop uit de de progressie die Honda dit seizoen met haar motor boekt. Daarbij heeft Red Bull ook veel aan de ontwikkelingen die ExxonMobil doorvoert aan de brandstoffen.

"Er wordt consistent gepusht. Door de komst van Honda is er dit jaar volgens mij veel meer kans om verschillende dingen te proberen met de brandstoffen. Voorheen werden we daarin wat beperkt, dus er wordt nu consistent gezocht naar snelheid en ik ben tot nu toe blij. Je wil het natuurlijk altijd beter doen en daar werken we aan. We proberen ons altijd te verbeteren, want stilstand betekent eigenlijk achteruitgang."
