McLaren gaat Mercedes achterna met nieuw ontwerp spiegels

McLaren heeft een opvallende nieuwe update meegenomen naar de Grand Prix van Canada. Het Britse team heeft nieuwe spiegels meegenomen naar Montreal die qua ontwerp sterk lijken op een variant die Mercedes eerder getest heeft.

Mercedes baarde in Spanje opzien door in de vrije trainingen spiegels uit te proberen, waarbij de steun de grootste verandering vormde. Daar waar de steun in eerste instantie aan de onderzijde vast zat aan de spiegel, liep deze in Spanje met een curve helemaal langs de zij- en bovenkant. Op deze manier wordt de spiegel ook op aerodynamische wijze ingezet. Na inzet in de vrije trainingen werd ervoor gekozen om dit niet in de race in te zetten.

Hoewel Mercedes de vinding dus niet gebruikt heeft tijdens de races, vond McLaren het de moeite waard om een vergelijkbare ontwikkeling te doen. In de pits in Canada was namelijk een variant van de spiegels te zien bij McLaren die zeer sterk lijkt op de versie die McLaren in Spanje testte.

    Waarschijnlijk niet gebruikt omdat er geen aerodynamisch voordeel mee behaald mag worden?

    Mercedes heeft deze spiegels enkel op de vrijdagtraining in Barcelona gebruikt, en enkel op Bottas zijn auto. Verder hebben ze er niet opgezeten, ook niet in Monaco. Red Bull gebruikt deze oplossing overigens al het hele jaar. STR, en Renault rijdem met vergelijkbare spiegels waarmee Ferrari de afgelopen jaren rond reed. Williams met een 'hybrid'.

    Dus ik snap niet zo goed waarom steeds Mercedes wordt aangehaald bij deze spiegels.

    Nog nooit anders geweest,zeker in de autoindustrie/sport,, na-apen ,afkijken, kopiëren .... Beter goed gejat dan (zelf) slecht verzonnen..... Worden innovaties en echte vernieuwing ook nagenoeg onmogelijk gemaakt door een 900 pagina boekje met reglementen... tja Zou toch wel interessant zijn als er wat meer vrijheid zou komen .... Zeker op het technische vlak....

      Dat zou wel kunnen, maar dan moet er sowieso een budgetplafond komen. Want anders gaan de rijke teams met zoveel extra miljoenen smijten in R&D dat het gat met de kleinere teams zo groot wordt dat die genoodzaakt worden te stoppen....

      De moderne V 1 model lijkt mij een mooi model als F1 bolide... de F1 in V vorm waar genoeg brandstof aan boord kan en een topsnelheid van om en nabij 450 km. De circuits moeten ruim verbreed zijn voor het inhalen van de bolides + met de veiligheid zit je gebakken in dit model. Niets meer met opstaande randjes en dergelijke. Ook te koop als bouwpakket met gebruiksaanwijzing, batterijen en afstandsbediening...…:-)
