Hülkenberg bestempelt interesse Red Bull als 'fake news'

Nico Hülkenberg gelooft niets van de geruchten dat Red Bull Racing interesse in zijn diensten heeft. De Renault-coureur noemt de verhalen zelfs 'fake news'.

Italiaanse media brachten na de Grand Prix van Monaco naar buiten dat Red Bull interesse zou hebben om Hülkenberg in 2020 aan te trekken. Hij zou daar de opvolger moeten worden van Pierre Gasly. De Fransman is bezig aan zijn eerste seizoen in Oostenrijkse dienst, maar vooralsnog komt hij fors tekort op teamgenoot Max Verstappen.

Bij Red Bull zelf werden de geruchten door Helmut Marko en door Gasly zelf al naar het rijk der fabelen verwezen en ook Hülkenberg moet er niets van weten. Hij vertelde aan onder andere GPToday.net dat het bericht in de categorie nepnieuws. "Het is gek. Ik heb gehoord dat het van een Italiaanse site komt, maar het is verzonnen. Het is in feite zelfs fake news."

Goed voor zijn zelfvertrouwen zijn de geruchten dat een topteam interesse in hem heeft ook niet meteen. Volgens hem is dat niet nodig om vertrouwen in zichzelf te hebben. "Het is natuurlijk goed voor mijn ego", grapt de Duitser. "Het deed me eigenlijk niets. Mijn zelfvertrouwen is gewoon in orde, ook zonder dergelijke speculaties."

Geen zorgen bij Hülkenberg over topsnelheid Renault

Dit weekend hoopt Hülkenberg in Canada terug te slaan na een moeizaam weekend in Monaco, dat hij puntloos afsloot. Het hele seizoen van de 31-jarige verloopt nog niet naar wens, want alleen in Australië wist hij punten te pakken. Op het Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is het volgens Hülkenberg belangrijk dat de auto tractie en topsnelheid heeft, terwijl er ook stabiliteit onder het remmen vereist is.

"Tractie is behoorlijk belangrijk hier, wat ook geldt voor topsnelheid. Ook is het circuit zwaar voor de remmen, waarbij de balans en het insturen van de bochten belangrijk is. Het gaat altijd om de balans, harmonie en het ritme die je vindt. Graining is iets wat hier in het verleden een onderwerp is geweest. We hebben dit jaar hardere banden, dus dat kan ook weer mee gaan spelen."

De Renault-motor lijkt inmiddels de minst sterke broeder te zijn van alle motoren in de Formule 1. Hülkenberg maakt zich echter geen zorgen in Canada. "Iedere race en ieder circuit is anders, dus iedere race laat op een bepaalde manier zien waar je staat. Het is altijd een momentopname, maar voorafgaand aan dit weekend heb ik geen kopzorgen over de krachtbron of snelheid op het rechte stuk. Ik denk dat we in goede vorm zijn."

Ze rijden nog steeds met de oude motorspec met de te zwakke drijfstangen. Er kan dus maar met weinig vermogen gereden worden om de boel heel te houden.
Daniël klaagt al het hele seizoen over een slecht gevoel in het aanremmen.
Zowel Renault als McLaren zullen het hier lastig krijgen maar Renault bovenal.

Het zelf vertrouwen speelt bij Hulkenberg mee en met een beetje geduld ziet hij zich weder opstaan bij Renault. Wat Nico een goede positie vindt.

  Ik geloofde er ook niks van maar nu ze het zo hard aan het ontkennen zijn van alle kanten ga ik er juist wel een beetje in geloven.
  
  Overigens ben ik het niet met je eens dat de Hulk middelmaat is. Ik schat hem hoger in dan bijvoorbeeld een Bottas.
