Hamilton: "Het is klote om een sessie vanaf de zijlijn te moeten bekijken"

De vrijdag van Lewis Hamilton in Canada leverde hem gemengde gevoelens op. De Mercedes-coureur was blij met het verloop van de eerste training, maar hij baalde dat hij door zijn eigen fout een groot deel van VT2 miste.

"Het is helemaal klote om een sessie van de zijlijn te moeten bekijken. Het is zeker niet hetgeen waar ik het meeste van geniet. Het is alsof je bij de rector op het kantoortje moet komen. Ik kan me dat nog goed herinneren, want daar moest ik me altijd melden. Ik wenste dat ik dan weer in de klas zou zitten, terwijl ik daar eigenlijk nooit wilde zitten", vergeleek Hamilton het uit moeten zitten van de tweede training.

Hamilton tevreden over veranderingen aan bolide

In de eerste vrije training had Hamilton de snelste tijd gereden. Wat hem daarbij vooral opviel, is hoe vies het asfalt was op het Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Over het verdere verloop van de sessie was hij wel tevreden, waarbij hij ook blij was met de veranderingen die aan zijn bolide doorgevoerd werden.

"Je zou denken dat ze de baan niet schoongemaakt hebben. Het asfalt was heel erg vies, maar daar heeft iedereen last van. Verder verliep de sessie soepel. In VT2 maakte ik een fout waarbij ik de auto beschadigde. Dat doe ik niet vaak, want ik kan met niet herinneren wanneer ik voor het laatst een hele sessie gemist heb. De jongens hebben enorm hard gewerkt om het op te lossen."

Teleurstelling van missen VT2 groot

“Het was een onschuldig foutje", vervolgt Hamilton over de aanvaring die hij had met de muur tijdens vrije training 2. "Ik reed al meerdere ronden sneller op de mediums en ik probeerde gewoon de limiet op te zoeken. Daarbij ging ik er duidelijk overheen, waardoor de auto in bocht 9 uitbrak. Ik driftte lang, waarbij ik hoopte dat ik de muur niet zou raken. Deze dingen kunnen gebeuren."

"Psychologisch gezien is het echt een teleurstelling, omdat je een groot deel van je sessie en lange runs verliest. Ik deed uiteindelijk maar acht ronden, wat maar zes oefenronden zijn. Misschien nog wel minder, omdat ik ook een aantal langzame ronden reed. Ook heb ik de lange runs dus niet kunnen doen. Dit soort dingen kunnen echter gebeuren en moet je meteen achter je laten. Gelukkig had Valtteri vandaag een goede sessie, dus van daaruit kunnen we veel analyseren."

  De wens de vader van de gedachte Clemenza :) Nee voor het kampioenschap zie ik Lewis overigens ook graag weer naast de lijn staan.
  
  Puur op basis van de man zijn talent denk ik niet dat hij stom genoeg is deze fout nog een keer te maken. Daar schat ik hem echt te hoog voor in.

  OT , op racing 365 staat dat Marko niet te spreken is over de acties van Gasly. Hij had op hef rechte stuk Max voorbij moeten laten gaan of gas b8j geven. Dan moet het team hem hierover informeren toch ?

  Heeft het team gedaan Polleken, of ze dat op tijd gedaan hebben weet ik niet. Maar dat is gebeurd.
  
  Daarnaast vind ik het niet sterk van Marko (die ik overigens zeer waardeer) om zo telkens over Gasly te spreken. Wissel m dan gewoon voor Kvyat. Maar ga niet dat mentale spelletje spelen.
