Vettel over poleronde in Canada: "Alles viel samen, de grip bleef maar komen"

Met een uiterste krachtsinspanning wist Sebastian Vettel zich te verzekeren van de pole position in Canada. De Ferrari-coureur sprak van een wonderlijke ronde, waarin alles samenviel en de grip maar bleef komen.

Ferrari werd voorafgaand aan het weekend in Canada bestempeld als favoriet, omdat de auto in de rechte lijn zo sterk is. In Q3 leek Lewis Hamilton echter af te stevenen op de pole, maar Vettel stak daar in de laatste seconden een stokje voor. Na afloop van de kwalificatie zat de Duitser nog altijd vol adrenaline en hij vertelde dat in zijn laatste ronde alles samenviel.

"Lewis is behoorlijk goed in de kwalificatie en een lastige noot om te kraken, maar eerlijk gezegd zit ik nog vol adrenaline. Je kent het gevoel dat je in de auto zit, je de grip voelt blijven komen en je er gewoon voor gaat. Dit was een van die ronden. Het was erg, erg goed en ik heb er echt van genoten. Ik ben erg blij, ook voor het team, want de laatste weken waren behoorlijk zwaar voor ons."

Race starten op mediums stemt Vettel tevreden

Op vrijdag was Vettel niet tevreden over het gevoel met de SF90. De viervoudig wereldkampioen stelde dat het op zaterdag een stuk beter aanvoelde dan op de vrijdag, toen ook het circuit nog een stuk stoffiger was dan op zaterdag. Tevens is Vettel zeer tevreden dat hij zich op de mediums wist te plaatsen voor Q3, zodat hij de race op die compound mag beginnen.

"Het was verschrikkelijk. Vandaag was de auto een stuk beter en dat nemen we mee naar morgen. Ook hebben we het gebruik van de rode band in de race ontweken, omdat we op de mediums door konden naar Q3. Het was een goede dag. De auto voelde goed en dat kunnen we meenemen naar de race. De Mercedessen zullen snel zijn, maar we zullen er alles aan doen."

  Ja hopelijk een spannende race morgen. En zelf hoop ik niet dat dit een eendagsvlieg is van Vettel cq Ferarri.

Ik hoop echt dat Seb morgen wint. Ben die Mercedes dominantie spuugzat, en het zal alleen maar goed zijn voor de sport en de titelstrijd, voor zover die al niet al lang beslist is natuurlijk.

Heel goed van Vettel , nu hoop ik alleen dat hij dat in de wedstrijd kan voortzetten , want daar ben ik niet zeker van , ik heb weer zo'n idee dat Mercedes voor Ferrari komt en aan de horizon verdwijnt
