Magnussen verklaart 'slechtste ervaring die ik ooit in raceauto heb gehad'

Kevin Magnussen sprak zich tijdens de Grand Prix van Canada stevig uit over hoe slecht hij het naar zijn zin had in de auto. Na de race kwam hij daarop terug door de scherpe randen van zijn kritiek af te halen.

Na zijn crash in de kwalificatie moesten de monteurs van Haas F1 flink aan de bak om de bolide van Magnussen gereed te maken voor de race, die hij daardoor vanuit de pits startte. De Deen kon vervolgens weinig potten breken met de zeventiende positie en tijdens de race liet hij zich stevig uit over de boordradio. "Dit is de slechtste ervaring die ik ooit in een raceauto gehad heb", brieste Magnussen.

Commentaar niet bedoeld als kritiek op team

Teambaas Günther Steiner greep daarna in en maakte een einde aan het commentaar van zijn coureur, die na de race terugkwam op het voorval. "De emoties lopen in zo'n situatie hoog op. Nooit eerder heb ik me zo machteloos en teleurgesteld gevoeld, want we hebben zo'n goede auto. In de kwalificatie is die briljant en kunnen we het tegen iedereen in de middenmoot opnemen."

"Drie of vier keer stonden we op pole position als beste van de rest. Het is dus erg lastig om je emoties in toom te houden in zo'n situatie. Het was niet gericht aan het team, want zij hebben het geweldig gedaan dit weekend. Ik maakte een fout in de kwalificatie, waardoor ze een compleet nieuwe auto moesten opbouwen."

Magnussen hintte dat het wederom de banden waren die Haas F1 in de steek lieten. "Zij hebben het geweldig gedaan. Zij hebben mij een auto gegeven die fantastisch is in de kwalificatie, maar deze banden werken gewoon niet voor ons in de race. Het is lastig om niet teleurgesteld te zijn, maar ik weet dat het hele team dat is. Zij verdienen beter dan dit."

Lopen klagen kan natuurlijk als je Ham Vet of Ver bent. KMAG mag al blij dat hij op de grid staat.

Tja, had hij de auto zelf niet af moeten schrijven tijdens de kwalificatie. Hij is de oorzaak dat beide auto's geen punten gescoord hebben.

  Dat is me te makkelijk. Dat ligt zeker niet alleen aan Magnussen.
  De auto is gewoon niet goed genoeg en vreet de banden te snel op.
  Als ze dat weten te verbeteren, wordt het een stuk makkelijker, maar ook als Grosjean in de top 10 was gestart, was hij buiten de punten geëindigd.
