Otmar Szafnauer: "Racing Point heeft nog veel meer upgrades in de pijplijn"

Racing Point-teambaas Otmar Szafnauer zegt dat zijn team nog vele upgrades achter de hand heeft. Het nieuwste team op de Formule 1-grid wil punten scoren. Op dit moment zit het team in het midden van de uitgestrekte middenmoot.

De Canadees-Britse formatie heeft op dit 19 punten gescoord en staat hiermee op een keurige zesde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap. Om deze positie te kunnen behouden moet Racing Point stappen gaan maken en zal er van de coureurs verwacht worden dat ze zeer regelmatig in de punten rijden.

"Het is een erg krap middenveld", vertelde Szafnauer. "Ik zie het gevecht om die vierde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap tot aan de laatste race doorgaan. Daarom is het van groot belang dat wij elke mogelijkheid aannemen om punten te scoren."

"Het is eerlijk om te zeggen dat onze snelheid tijdens de races beter is dan tijdens de kwalificatie. Wij moeten er voor gaan zorgen dat we ons beter kunnen kwalificeren."

Upgrades

Het team heeft al enkele wijzigingen aan de auto doorgevoerd. Tijdens het eerste deel van het seizoen heeft Racing Point een aantal verbeteringen aan de auto geplaatst. De teambaas vertelde dat er hard gewerkt wordt door het team van Andy Green (technisch directeur Racing Point) om de kloof naar de top van het middenveld te dichten.

"We hebben sinds het begin van dit jaar een aantal goede stappen vooruit gezet met de auto en er zitten nog meer upgrades in de pijplijn. Als het middenveld heel dicht bij elkaar ligt kan elke positieve verandering een heleboel schelen. Wij zien het ook echt als een uitdaging om te klimmen op de prestatie-ladder. Ons doel is om nog voor de zomerstof een flink aantal punten te kunnen scoren."

Racing Point zou volgens geruchten een B-versie van haar RP19 brengen tijdens de Duitse Grand Prix in Hockenheim. Of het team deze geplande upgrades gedurende de weken voorafgaande aan de Duitse Grand Prix al naar de circuits brengt, is nog niet bekend.
