Leclerc verwacht geen significante boost van nieuwe voorvleugel

Charles Leclerc verwacht niet dat de nieuwe voorvleugel van Ferrari een significante verbetering van de rondetijd zal geven in Frankrijk. Wel hoopt hij dat hij in de kwalificatie beter gaat presteren dan hij dit seizoen tot nu toe gedaan heeft.

Ferrari heeft een aantal nieuwe onderdelen meegenomen naar de Grand Prix van Frankrijk en een van de vernieuwingen is te vinden bij de voorvleugel. Hoewel de veranderingen niets doen met het fundamentele concept van de voorvleugel, is de vleugel toch iets minder extreem dan de versie het team hiervoor gebruikte. De verandering moet Ferrari dichter bij Mercedes in de buurt brengen.

Ferrari aast op Paul Ricard wederom op de eerste zege van 2019, maar Leclerc verwacht geen wonderen van de nieuwe voorvleugel. "Het zal denk ik helpen in verschillende delen van de bocht. We verwachten geen significant verschil voor dit circuit, maar we zouden wat resultaten moeten zien en hopelijk wordt het iets beter. Voor dit circuit in het bijzonder verwacht ik echter geen grote verbeteringen."

Leclerc wil in Frankrijk sterker kwalificeren

Een verbeterpunt voor Leclerc zelf zijn zijn kwalificaties dit seizoen. De Monegask is pas een keer sneller geweest dan teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel, maar dat leverde hem in Bahrein wel een pole position op. Gemiddeld geeft hij echter twee tienden van een seconde toe op de Duitser en dus heeft Leclerc het gevoel dat hij zijn winst vooral kan behalen op zaterdag.

"In Canada maakte ik wat foutjes. Mijn hoofddoel op dit moment is alles samen te laten komen in de kwalificatie. Tijdens de race was mijn prestatie sterk, dus ik was daar blij mee. In de kwalificatie maakte ik helaas wat foutjes en ik denk dat we geluk hadden dat ik vanaf P3 mocht vertrekken. Ik denk dat ik hiervan moet leren en er beter van moet worden, want dan komen de resultaten vanzelf."

Ik denk dat Leclerc het heel goed gaat doen dit weekend. Hopelijk kan Mercedes geen gat slaan met de rest in VT1 en VT2 want dan weten we weer hoe laat het is.

Het enige was ik hoop dat die spruit een goede race rijdt en zich minder druk maakt om foutjes. Dan komen de overwinningen en goede kwali's vanzelf wel. Go Charlie!

  Allo,allo, It is I, Leclerc. Hij denkt helemaal niet dat hij sneller is dan Seb. Dat heeft hij never nooit gezegt. Maar ook Seb rijdt ook niet helemaal foutloos. Maar ik gun hem uiteraard een goed resultaat. Maar in zijn jonger jaren liet Seb ook wel eens steekjes vallen, en nam ook heel vaak risico's. Jonge wijn moet eerst rijpen.

  Dat hoeft gelukkig niet heel veel te zeggen. In Canada was Mercedes een seconde los in FP1 en in andere sessies was het allemaal wel wat dichterbij elkaar.
