Ericsson legt komende week in Alfa Romeo bandentest Pirelli af

Marcus Ericsson zal komende week terugkeren achter het stuur van een Formule 1-bolide. De reservecoureur van Alfa Romeo zal dan een bandentest voor Pirelli afwerken op dinsdag en woensdag.

Pirelli is het hele jaar lang al bezig met tests voor de banden die in 2020 gebruikt gaan worden in de Formule 1. Daarvoor heeft het een schema opgesteld, waardoor de meeste teams minimaal een keer data aan hebben kunnen leveren voor de banden. Zo testten Ferrari en Red Bull Racing enkele weken geleden op Paul Ricard de regenbanden voor 2020.

Na de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk blijven Pirelli en Alfa Romeo nog even plakken op de Red Bull Ring. Het team zal daar de slicks van Pirelli voor 2020 aan de tand gaan voelen. Die taak laat het team niet uitvoeren door een van de vaste coureurs, maar door reserve Ericsson. De Zweed vertelde recent al dat hij graag nog eens een test zou uitvoeren in een Formule 1-auto van dit jaar.

Ericsson reed tussen 2014 en 2018 in de Formule 1 voor Caterham en Sauber. Dit jaar was er echter geen plek meer bij dat laatste team, dat Kimi Raikkonen en Antonio Giovinazzi aanstelde als coureurs. Ericsson bleef aan als reserve en beproefde zijn geluk in de IndyCar Series. Hij staat daar vijftiende in het kampioenschap en behaalde in Detroit zijn beste resultaat door tweede te worden.

Zou wel leuk wat geld op tafel leggen hiervoor. Zo slecht is hij anders ook niet. Heeft voor het team ook het voorwerk voor dit jaar gedaan dus dat ging prima aangezien Leclerc telkens voor Ferrari uitkwam in dit soort testjes.

Laat zo'n test nou doen door een huidig F1 coureur. Die heeft ervaring met de huidige banden en kan beter aanvoelen of het de goede kant op gaat. Die banden zijn zo belangrijk tegenwoordig en kunnen een groot verschil maken volgend jaar. Laat een goede coureur die de race heeft gereden in Oostenrijk dan een vergelijking doen. Volgend jaar word het weer niks met die banden!

Sommigen van jullie weten misschien dat ik p[recht een Marcus fan ben. Tuurlijk niet de beste, maar eerlijke hardwerkende jongen, mijns inziens werd hij niet zo hard om de oren gereden door Leclerc als Gio op dit moment door Kimi. Langzame leerling misschien, maar echt niet heel slecht.

Heb gejuicht voor zijn podium in de indycar, ik gun het hem en van mij mag hij terugkomen in F1.

  Ik sluit mij wel een beetje bij jou aan, ondanks dat ik niet zozeer een Marcus fan ben. Er wordt wel telkens gesproken over de mooie dingen die Leclerc vorig jaar in de Sauber liet zien, maar er wordt zelden gesproken over de mooie races die Ericsson heeft gehad. Hij heeft vorig jaar ook een paar goede kwalificaties gehad, zoals P7 in Brazilië.
  Het lijkt mij dat de Sauber van vorig jaar toch een betere auto was dan dat een hoop mensen denken. En eigenlijk zou ik wel benieuwd zijn hoe Marcus zich verhoudt ten opzichte van Kimi.
