Bottas zag miscommunicatie leiden tot slechte aanloop naar laatste run Q3

Valtteri Bottas baalde van het verloop van Q3 tijdens de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk. De Mercedes-coureur kwam niet verder dan de vierde tijd, mede door een inhaalactie van Charles Leclerc.

Vlak voor het aanvangen van zijn laatste ronde in Q3 werd Bottas ingehaald door Leclerc. Mede daardoor kon de Fin niet op een ideale manier zijn voorbereiding op de ronde beginnen en dat leidde ertoe dat hij zijn tijd in de tweede run niet meer verbeterde. Door de straf van Lewis Hamilton start Bottas vanaf P3, maar na de kwalificatie vertelde hij dat een miscommunicatie met Mercedes het proces eigenlijk in gang zette.

"Qua verkeer was het een beetje een rommelige Q3. We gingen al laat naar buiten voor de eerste run en daarna waren er auto's die inhielden. Vanaf die kant bekeken was mijn eerste ronde goed. Tijdens mijn tweede run stond iedereen zo ongeveer geparkeerd in de laatste sector. We hadden ook een probleempje met de communicatie. Mij werd verteld dat het erg krap ging worden, maar dat ik het zou halen."

Mercedes had moeite met softs te laten werken

"Nadat Leclerc voor mij kroop, reed ik in de laatste bocht erg dicht achter hem en ik ging enorm langzaam. Ik zat iets te dicht op hem, kwam slecht weg uit de laatste bocht en verloor daardoor behoorlijk wat tijd voor bocht 1. Het opwarmen van de banden lukte niet door het rustig rijden in sector 3. Het hele weekend was het voor ons lastig om de softs voor een ronde aan het werk te krijgen."

Hoevaak hebben ze al verteld dat ze de race bijna niet konden uitrijden door 1 of ander onbekend voorval???

Mercedes heeft altijd wel een reden om een matige prestatie te verklaren.
Ook over de races hebben ze wel altijd wel wat te lullen (zelfs als ze winnen)
Hoevaak hebben ze al verteld dat ze de race bijna niet konden uitrijden door 1 of ander onbekend voorval???
Hier lijkt mercedes gewoon niet snel genoeg of ze zouden gisteren niet op vol vermogen moeten gereden hebben om te zien hoe de motor zich gedraagt. Vandaag gaat ie miss weer wel op vol vermogen. Ik denk dat vanmiddag de mooiste race van het seizoen gereden word.
