Eenstopper met start op mediums beste strategie volgens Pirelli

Ferrari zal het tijdens de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk niet makkelijk krijgen om de overwinning veilig te stellen. Pirelli verwacht namelijk dat de Scuderia haar coureurs niet met de beste strategie op pad gestuurd heeft.

Charles Leclerc wist zich van de pole position te verzekeren voor de race op de Red Bull Ring, maar Ferrari baarde eerder in de kwalificatie meer opzien. Het team liet de Monegask en teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel in Q2 rijden op de zachtste compound van Pirelli. De concurrentie koos ervoor om in dat deel van de kwalificatie juist op de mediums te gaan rijden, zodat de race op die bandencompound aangevangen kan worden.

Eenstopper duidelijk sneller dan twee pitstops

Volgens Pirelli heeft de concurrentie het daardoor beter voor elkaar dan Ferrari. De bandenleverancier verwacht namelijk dat een eenstopper duidelijk de snelste strategie is. De snelste optie is om op de mediums te starten en vervolgens na zo'n 15 tot 20 ronden te wisselen naar een setje harde banden, waarop de race uitgereden moet worden.

De op een na snelste strategie volgens Pirelli is ook een eenstopper en wel de variant die Ferrari waarschijnlijk gaat uitvoeren. Hierbij wordt begonnen op een setje zachte banden, die na 12 tot 15 ronden ingewisseld worden voor de hardste exemplaren. Een tweestopper is volgens Pirelli ook mogelijk, maar wel duidelijk langzamer dan de varianten met maar een pitstop.

We gaan het zien.. Als Max beide Mercedes achter zich kan houden zie ik winst wel zitten.. Zou geweldig zijn, zeker ook voor Honda..

Soms moet je wat anders proberen dan de concurrentie.
In de kwalificatie hebben de softs in ieder geval pole voor LeClerc opgeleverd, dat was met mediums misschien niet gelukt.

Zag bij de analyses van de longruns dat de softs ook niet sneller waren dan de mediums, dus daar zullen ze weinig voordeel uithalen.
Ik verwacht dat de Mercedessen en Max het tempo van LeClerc prima kunnen volgen .
Dus wat Pirelli zegt, zou best eens kunnen kloppen.

  Ze starten op de banden waar ze in Q2 de beste tijd mee rijden, dus als Leclerc in Q3 had geprobeerd om pole te pakken op mediums was hij waarschijnlijk voor altijd het lachertje van de F1 geweest...

Het is al droevig genoeg dat je als bandenfabrikant aangeeft welke strategie de beste is.
Gewoon zorgen voor banden die heel snel degraderen na een ronde of twintig. Dat gelul over banden management

Het veiligste is om gewoon in te zetten op een 1-2 voor Mercedes. Ik hoop echt dat het niet zo wordt, maar je moet nu eenmaal met het huis meespelen hè. Misschien heeft Pirelli het dus een keer bij het juiste eind.
