Szafnauer: "F1 zou maximaal 20 races op kalender moeten zetten"

Volgend seizoen heeft de F1-kalender zeer waarschijnlijk 21 races op het programma staan, hetzelfde aantal als momenteel het geval is. F1 CEO Chase Carey heeft zelfs gezegd de kalender in de toekomst uit te willen breiden naar 25 races, maar dat is helemaal tegen het zere been van veel teambazen en coureurs.

Minder F1 races maar meer geld vragen

Racing Point-teamleider Otmar Szafnauer vertelde aan GPToday.net dat hij van mening is dat 20 races per seizoen het maximale is: "Mijn persoonlijke visie is dat Liberty eens goed en nauwkeurig moet kijken naar de prijselasticiteit. Ben je beter af met 18 races en kun je niet beter met 18 races de prijs van de andere 17 opdrijven? Of ben je beter af met 25 races? Ik denk dat de F1 zich beter exclusief kan maken, iets meer geld vragen en dat is uiteindelijk beter voor alle medewerkers."

Zoals gezegd wil Liberty graag de F1 kalender uitbreiden naar 25 races. Dat ziet Szafnauer niet zo snel gebeuren: "Als je naar 25 races in een seizoen gaat, verliest je iets. De F1 moet zich richten op een extra race in Amerika en Afrika in de toekomst."

"Het lijkt mij heel leuk om vaker naar Amerika te gaan, bijvoorbeeld Miami. Het is ook belangrijk om een goede basis te houden in Europa, dat hebben Liberty en Chase Carey ook aan ons beloofd. Een race in Afrika zie ik persoonlijk graag op de kalender omdat ik denk dat Afrika een opkomende economie. Wie weet racen we over een paar jaar weer in Zuid-Afrika."

Eens met Szafnauer. Boven 20-21 treedt er verzadiging op. Denk ik.
20 is een prima aantal en houdt het nog net exclusief.

Lekker exclusief maken, zo exclusief dat straks niemand meer kijkt en/of het te duur vind om heen te gaan.
Laat ie zich druk maken over de idiote (grid)straffen en alle beperkingen op motoren etc.
