Mercedes neemt Paul Aron op in opleidingsprogramma

Mercedes heeft een nieuwe jonge coureur toegevoegd aan haar opleidingsprogramma. De Est Paul Aron heeft genoeg indruk gemaakt op de kampioenen in de Formule 1 om een plaatsje in de opleiding te krijgen.

Aron is pas 15 jaar oud en maakte eerder dit jaar zijn debuut in de autosport. De afgelopen jaren was hij in verschillende kartkampioenschappen actief, waarbij hij vorig jaar titels won in het CIK-FIA Europees kampioenschap, de WSK Champions Cup en de South Garda OKJ Winter Cup. Dit jaar rijdt hij voor Prema Powerteam in zowel het Italiaans als het Duits Formule 4.

Het debuutseizoen van Aron verloopt heel redelijk. In het Italiaans kampioenschap Formule 4 staat hij momenteel op de tiende plek in de tussenstand, in het Duitse kampioenschap zelfs op P5. Wel staat hij in dat laatste kampioenschap twee posities achter Arthur Leclerc, het broertje van Ferrari-coureur Charles. Zijn prestaties hebben echter genoeg indruk gemaakt op Mercedes om de Est aan zich te binden.

Aansluiten in de rij met Ocon en Russell

Aron voegt zich dus bij het opleidingsprogramma van Mercedes, waarbij hij onderdeel wordt van een groep coureurs die bestaat uit Esteban Ocon en George Russell, die beiden al rijp zijn voor de Formule 1. Ook werkt het kampioensteam samen met karters Andrea Antonelli en Alex Powell. Voor hun komt er nog een stap naar de autosport aan, eentje die Aron dit jaar dus gemaakt heeft.

De jonge coureur heeft ook een racende oudere broer, Ralf Aron. Hij reed de afgelopen drie seizoenen in het Europees Formule 3, waarbij hij vijf races won en vorig jaar zesde in het kampioenschap werd.

  Als je zo goed presteert als hem kan je goede sponsoren aantrekken waar je meer aan hebt dan een "opleidingsprogramma" waarmee je straks naast de pot pist.

  Je staat ook direct in de spotlights omdat je Mercedes coureur bent. Iets dat Hartley en Albon niet veel goed hebben gedaan. Eenmaal uit de spotlights werden hun prestaties top.

  Het is leuk om in zo’n programma opgenomen te worden, maar je komt gelijk nergens. Ik noem bijvoorbeeld Wehrlein, Ocon maar ook Russel. Je zit vast in het programma en zeker Mercedes heeft er een handje van om ze niet te laten gaan ook al hebben ze de kans bij een andere team met andere motor. Dat is pas echt killing voor die gasten hun carriere.

Ze hebben ook nog een groot karttalent opgepikt uit Italië met de naam Kimi Antonelli die nog maar 12 jaar is.
Vreemd dat Ferrari die niet in het academy driver heeft opgenomen.
