Massa over Braziliaanse GP in Rio: "Het klinkt als een grap"

Felipe Massa plaatst zijn vraagtekens bij het voornemen om de Braziliaanse Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro te gaan verrijden. De voormalig Formule 1-coureur vindt de plannen 'als een grap' klinken.

De Braziliaanse Grand Prix wordt al sinds eind jaren '80 steevast gereden op het Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Sao Paulo, beter bekend als Interlagos. De nieuwe Braziliaanse president Jair Bolsonaro kondigde recent echter aan dat hij de race wil vanaf 2020 verplaatsen naar een nog te bouwen circuit in Rio de Janeiro. Sao Paulo beschikt echter over een contract tot en met 2020, dus lijkt een dergelijke stap voor volgend jaar onwaarschijnlijk.

Massa verwacht dat financiën grootste obstakel zijn

Bolsonaro lijkt echter niet op te geven en vertelde recent dat de kans op verplaatsing van de race naar Rio '99 procent' is. Er bestaan echter twijfels over het bedrijf dat achter het hele project staat. Massa, die tegenwoordig in de Formule E rondrijdt, heeft de berichten ook gehoord en hij ziet helemaal niets in het plan om de race weg te halen bij Interlagos.

"Het klinkt als een grap", vertelde hij aan Globo. "Als je op de wereld rondkijkt zijn er veel circuits die het moeilijk hebben of te koop staan. Rio zal daarop geen uitzondering vormen. Ik ben een voorstander van nieuwe circuits, maar het gaat een groot financieel probleem opleveren voor de mensen die dit circuit privaat gaan betalen. Denk eens hard na of dit het correcte ding is om dit circuit aan te leggen in Rio."

Persoonlijk vindt ik het belachelijk dat dit circuit waarschijnlijk(?) gaat verdwijnen. Hier zijn toch in de afgelopen jaren mooie races gereden. Als het echt wordt doorgezet is dat echt een verlies op de kalender.

Persoonlijk vindt ik het belachelijk dat dit circuit waarschijnlijk(?) gaat verdwijnen. Hier zijn toch in de afgelopen jaren mooie races gereden. Als het echt wordt doorgezet is dat echt een verlies op de kalender.

Felipe is geboren in Sau Paulo, hij kan moeilijk anders zeggen.

dat zou zijn als Jan Lammers die zegt dat de Nederlandse GP naar Assen moet.

  Velen vinden dit vaak een mooie race in Sao Paulo ... dus hij heeft een goed punt, dat heeft toch niets met zijn geboorteplaats te maken.
  Ik hoop in ieder geval ook de SP blijft. ?

  Natuurlijk heeft dat wel met zijn geboorteplaats te maken, er is altijd een strijd tussen Rio en Sau Paulo zoals we hier Amsterdam tegen Rotterdam hebben

Zou heel jammer zijn... op zich een mooi circuit met een rijke historie.
niets aan veranderen... kost het ook minder geld... beter dit circuit moderniseren i.p.v. andere locatie is mijn mening...

  Die Braziliaanse president is idd zo gek als een klapdeur. De regering heeft geen ene cent te makken, en meneer wil ff een nagelnieuw, en zeer waarschijnlijk peperduur kostend circuit aanleggen? Ben benieuwd hoeveel miljoenen smeergeld hij daarvoor gaat ontvangen van de bouwbedrijven die dat circuit uit de grond moeten gaan stampen. De regering kan veel beter, en voor een prikkie tov Rio, geld stoppen in renoveren van het prachtige, en vol F1 historie ademende Interlagos!
