Williams behoudt titelsponsor ROKiT tot en met 2023

Daar waar Haas F1 haar titelsponsor al snel kwijt dreigt te raken, heeft Williams op dat vlak juist goed nieuws. Titelsponsor ROKiT heeft het driejarige contract met twee extra seizoenen laten verlengen tot eind 2023.

Williams beleeft tot nu toe een bijzonder teleurstellend 2019. Het team had haar auto niet op tijd af en toen deze enkele dagen te laat arriveerde bij de wintertests, bleek de bolide ook nog eens veel langzamer dan de concurrentie. Na negen races is het Britse team dan ook nog altijd puntloos, want Robert Kubica en George Russell kunnen meestal niet van de laatste posities af komen.

ROKiT houdt vertrouwen ondanks matige resultaten

In februari werd ROKiT als nieuwe titelsponsor aangekondigd. Het contract zou oorspronkelijk een looptijd hebben van drie jaar, maar de slechte prestaties hebben de smartphonemaker niet afgeschrokken. Het bedrijf is zelfs bereid gebleken om het contract met twee seizoenen te verlengen, waardoor Williams tot en met 2023 verzekerd is van inkomsten en sponsoring van ROKiT.

"Wij zijn erg blij om deze verlenging van onze samenwerking met ROKiT aan te kondigen", vertelde plaatsvervangend teambaas Claire Williams. "Zoals ik in februari zei, is dit een natuurlijke samenwerking, gebaseerd op de gedeelde waarden innovatie, excellente engineering en vertrouwen."

  Ik gok iets met dubbeltje op de eerste rij en reeds al warme banden met een team als Williams. Dat biedt veel bekendheid. Iets waar ROKiT naar op zoek is.

Mooi nieuws voor het mooie Williams. Hopelijk kunnen ze nu sportief stap voor stap vooruitgang boeken. Zo'n eenzame race als langzaamste wagens gun je dit team niet.

  Zolang Claire er zit vrees ik toch het ergste. Ze lijkt in bijna alles wel zo belachelijk tegendraads. Ik zie niet hoe ze het lek boven gaan krijgen als het precies blijft zoals het nu is.

  Zal aan de motor niet moeten liggen, dat is het frappante. Ook Racing Point doet het trouwens erg matig met ook de Mercedes motor.
  Hoe men dan weer naar voren komt .....ook geen idee. Juiste mensen toch maar aantrekken lijkt me, van Patrick Head is ook niet zoveel vernomen in de media, wie weet is die flink bezig achter de schermen. Hoe dan ook, gelukkig blijft het team nog wel een tijdje overeind.

  Ik denk dat ze bij Williams volop bezig zijn om orde op zaken te stellen. Rokit weet waarschijnlijk meer dan wat wij reageerders weten waarom ze dit doen.

  Nee dat kon wel ruim een jaar gaan duren.
  Ze moeten een exacte kostenplaatje overleggen aan de verzekeraar en die gaat dat nog eens nauwkeurig laten nakijken door haar experts maar ja, welke verzekeringexpert weet nou echt wat die schadepost is.
  Vanwege de complexe materie is de verwachting dat dit nog lang op zich laat wachten.
  In de tussentijd zijn de kroketten bij de lunch wegbezuinigd.

  ROKiT is opgezet door een aantal miljardairs die hun strepen wel hebben verdient met zaken doen. Daarbij is 1 CEO ooit werkzaam geweest voor Williams. Toen ROKiT reeds in de NBA en NFL actief was om bekendheid te krijgen, is er de keuze gemaakt om de Formule 1 in te stappen. En door Jonathan Kendrick had ROKiT al banden met Williams, dus de keuze was simpel. Eerder dit jaar is ROKiT gelanceerd en worden hun producten (vooralsnog) in Amerika verkocht. Maar de bekendheid groeit al en er zijn inmiddels positieve geluiden vanuit de techwereld ten opzichte van de verkochte producten. OnePlus, om even een minder bekende (anders dan Samsung, Apple of Nokia) telefoonfabrikant te noemen, heeft na de lancering er drie jaar over gedaan om de mainstream te bereiken. ROKiT heeft dat bij de lancering al bereikt. Over vijf jaar is de kans groot dat het merk ROKiT bekend in Europa is.
