Vettel laat beslissing over toekomst in F1 deels afhangen van reglementen 2021

Hoe lang blijft Sebastian Vettel nog in de Formule 1 racen? De Ferrari-coureur heeft daar zelf nog geen eenduidig antwoord op, maar wel laat hij doorschemeren van de reglementen voor 2021 een rol kunnen spelen in zijn beslissing.

Vettel is een van de succesvolste coureurs van het afgelopen decennium. Tussen 2010 en 2013 werd hij vier keer wereldkampioen bij Red Bull Racing, maar sinds zijn overstap naar Ferrari ontbreken de grote successen. Vettel heeft zich meermaals kritisch uitgelaten over de huidige staat van de Formule 1 en het is dan niet geheel verrassend dat de Duitser aankondigt dat hij zijn toekomst deels laat afhangen van de reglementen die in 2021 hun intrede doen in de sport.

"Absoluut. Ik moet er nog steeds zo naar kijken dat ik kan zeggen dat de auto's nog spannend zijn en dat de formule dat ook is. De tijd tikt weg natuurlijk en het is goed dat ze ons gevraagd hebben. We hebben onze mening gegeven en dat zullen we blijven doen. Hopelijk slaat de sport de juiste weg in om te groeien, ons te laten racen, onszelf te laten uitdagen en te zien wat we allemaal kunnen."

Huidige F1-auto's te zwaar volgens Vettel

Een van de punten waar Vettel kritisch over is, is zijn de huidige auto's. Die zijn volgens hem te zwaar, wat het rijgedrag op lage snelheid niet ten goede komt. "Op hoge snelheid zijn ze topklasse. Ik wil niet zeggen dat ze op lage snelheid de slechtste van de klas zijn, maar ze zijn wel te zwaar. Dat is iets wat mij niet bevalt. De Formule 1-auto's die ik leerde kennen, zorgden op iedere snelheid voor een sensatie."

"De races waren eigenlijk een sprintrace. Dat was geweldig, want je kon jezelf, de auto en de banden iedere ronde pushen. Dat is een beetje veranderd. Sommige races passen we meer op, andere races minder. Je zal altijd een beetje moeten opletten en dat hoort ook zo. Je moet ook je hoofd gebruiken, niet alleen je handen en voeten, maar het moet zo zijn dat de snelste coureur aan het eind van de race gehuldigd wordt."

2004 was het min gewicht van de auto 600 kgs (605kgs tijdens de quali) inclusief rijder en brandstof!

In 2019 is het 740 kgs zonder brandstof en minimaal 80 kgs van die 740 moet bestaan uit de coureur/stoeltje en rijders bijbehoren (Helm, HANS etc)

Vettel heeft een goed punt dat dat auto's veel en veels te zwaar zijn geworden.

Het is altijd een combinatie van snelste coureur en snelste auto, nooit alleen de coureur.. Voor de rest heeft Vettel wel gelijk denk ik, de auto's van nu zijn te zwaar en vooral veel te lang.. Maar dat komt door alle hybride zooi die er tegenwoordig inzit en dat gaat vrees ik niet veranderen in 2021.. Lijkt mij verder sterk dat dit een grote invloed al hebben op zijn beslissing, dat zal toch vooral van zijn eigen motivatie afhangen en hoe Ferrari het doet in 2020 denk ik..

  Als je het wil laten afhangen van de reglementen van 2021, dan zou je toch eerst een jaar ermee moeten rijden lijkt mij.... Natuurlijk wordt je ook wel wat wijzer als je genoeg in de simulator hebt gereden, maar dat is toch niet de realiteit. Hoe het op papier staat qua reglementen wil natuurlijk nog niet zeggen dat het in werkelijkheid ook zo gaat zijn.....
