Gasly heeft motorstand 11 nog niet kunnen gebruiken

Max Verstappen had zijn zege tijdens de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix mede te danken aan het gebruik van motorstand 11. Teamgenoot Pierre Gasly stelt echter dat hij die motorstand nog nooit gebruikt heeft.

Op de Red Bull Ring maakte Verstappen een zeer sterke indruk. Na een slechte start wist hij zich vanaf de zevende positie helemaal naar voren te knokken om uiteindelijk de zege binnen te slepen. Het contrast met de prestaties van Gasly was groot: de Franse Red Bull-coureur kwam slechts als zevende over de finish, op meer dan een ronde achterstand van Verstappen.

De Nederlander kon tijdens de race motorstand 11 inzetten in zijn jacht op de zege. Op Silverstone werd Gasly gevraagd of hij die motorstand ook heeft kunnen gebruiken, maar dat bleek niet het geval. "Nee, ik heb motorstand 11 niet gebruikt. Er zijn verschillende standen voor de kwalificatie en de race en ik wil hier liever niet over praten, maar om antwoord te geven op je vraag: nee."

Geen aanwijsbaar gebied waar Gasly moeite mee heeft

Gasly beleeft een moeizaam eerste seizoen in Oostenrijkse dienst. De start van het jaar was zeer lastig voor de opvolger van Daniel Ricciardo, die met name in de afgelopen drie races een zwakke indruk achterliet. In Groot-Brittannië rijdt hij met de afstelling van teamgenoot Verstappen in een poging de prestaties te verbeteren. Volgens Gasly zelf is er niet een gebied in de auto aan te wijzen waardoor hij het lastig heeft.

“Er is geen duidelijk gebied waar ik moeite heb met de auto. Het is in het algemeen. Het is ook niet per se het vertrouwen en ook hier wil ik liever niet te veel over kwijt. Ik denk dat dit iets is wat bij de persoon zelf moet blijven, maar er zijn een aantal dingen die we kunnen verbeteren en daar proberen we aan te werken met het team. We willen allemaal betere prestaties en op dit moment zijn er veel kleine dingen die we beter kunnen doen."

Gasly wilt niet te veel zeggen. Want zoals hij laat zien is hij liever een man van daden.

  Is ook wel logisch na de opmerkingen van Horner en Marko dat hij de problemen allereerst bij zichzelf moet zoeken voor dat hij de schuld bij het team en ontwerpers gaat leggen.
  De 1e training was vandaag erg goed, maar achteraf blijkt ook dat hij een ander programma heeft gereden , meer op kwalificatie-pace dan op race-pace.
  Maar goed, we zien het wel hoe de 2e training verloopt.
  3e training ga ik deze keer overslaan, dat commentaarrrrr van Plooij verpest het voor mij. Maar dat is mijn gevoel en eigelijk ook off topic hier, sorry.

  Ja, dat ben ik met je eens Hennie, dat dat de reden is dat hij er liever niets over zegt. Uiteindelijk moet hij het gewoon laten zien en heeft het niet zoveel zin om publieke uitspraken te doen erover. Voorlopig in de 2e training gaat het nu ook wel lekker. Het wordt tijd dat hij dat tijdens de race ook doet.

Het is en blijft de vraag wat die motorstand 11 met de motor doet qua levensduur. Het kan zomaar zijn als die motor komende race wordt ingezet dat hij ploft. Dus dan is het niet heel raar dat Gasly deze stand nog niet heeft gebruikt. Feit is wel dat de motor met deze stand wel presteert, dat was wel duidelijk laatste race. Het vermogen is er, dus maak die motor betrouwbaar genoeg om dat vermogen te blijven hanteren.

  Alsof het zo simpel is. Ik vermoed dat ze zich al jaren het schompes werken om de betrouwbaarheid te verbeteren.

  Dat is ook het hele punt,,, makkie voor Honda om er desnoods 150 pk extra uit te halen , maar dan wordt het elke race een nieuw torretje en bijbehorende grid straffen
