Banden van Pirelli hebben het lastig op nieuw asfalt in Silverstone

De banden van 2019 van Pirelli zijn controversieel te noemen. Er is dit jaar al veel over te doen geweest, waarbij er zelfs is gestemd door de teams om terug te keren naar de banden van 2018. Dat plan viel echter in duigen omdat er geen meerderheid bij de teams te vinden was.

Dit weekend in Silverstone hebben de banden van 2019 het ook extra moeilijk. De afgelopen weken is er een nieuwe laag asfalt gelegd op het circuit in Engeland en daardoor is er meer degradatie dan op andere circuits.

Marcin Budkowski is technisch directeur bij Renault en vertelde: "Het is de vraag hoe ver je durft te gaan op dit asfalt en met deze banden."

Ferrari-coureurs Sebastian Vettel en Charles Leclerc: "Het duurde voor ons zeven ronden en toen was het afgelopen. Er zat geen rubber meer op de banden. We hadden enorm veel degradatie en blaren op de band linksvoor."

Pirelli ziet geen problemen

Bij de Italiaanse bandenfabrikant maakt men zich niet druk. Mario Isola: "Bij ons gaan geen alarmbellen rinkelen. We hadden eenzelfde probleem in 2017 tijdens de testsessies in Barcelona. Daar lag toen ook nieuw asfalt. Ik voorzie geen problemen dit weekend."

    Mag van mij vaker gebeuren, wat een bagger zijn die banden van dit jaar. Sowieso moet er gewoon meer gewisseld worden. Het is te slapjes allemaal

      Ik hunker idd weer terug naar de bridgestone tijd... Helaas deze italianen kunnen prutbanden leveren omdat ze toch een monopolie hebben voor de komende jaren. Ik snap ook niet waarom iedereen bij banden oorlog alleen denkt aan de oude methode... Je kan ook een bandenoorlog beginnen zonder teams te schaden: Verplicht wisselen van merk.

      Elke ronde flat-out, welke band het beste is blijf je natuurlijk het langst op rijden. De slechtste moet alsnog gebruikt worden, voor iedereen t zelfde maar in iedergeval de bandenmerken weer in competitie.
