Winnares W Series verdient half miljoen prijzengeld met titel

De eerste winnares van het kampioenschap in de W Series kan een mooi bedrag op haar rekening bijschrijven. Het kampioenschap verdeelt in totaal 1,5 miljoen dollar aan prijzengeld, waarvan 500.000 dollar voor de winnares is weggelegd.

De W Series is in 2019 bezig met haar eerste seizoen, nadat het idee in 2018 ontwikkeld werd. Inmiddels zijn de eerste vier races van het kampioenschap verreden, terwijl er nog twee op het programma staan. Een van die races wordt komend weekend gehouden op TT Circuit Assen, terwijl het seizoen afgesloten wordt op Brands Hatch.

De klasse moet dienen als opstap voor vrouwen richting een toekomst in de autosport en daarom wordt er een mooie pot met prijzengeld onder de dames verdeeld. In totaal wordt er anderhalf miljoen uitgedeeld, waarbij de winnares 500.000 dollar krijgt, de nummer 2 in het kampioenschap 250.000 dollar en de nummer 3 krijgt 125.000 dollar. Dat bedrag bouwt helemaal af naar 7.500 dollar voor de twee reservecoureurs van het kampioenschap.

Vanaf 2020 punten om richting superlicentie te werken

De klasse is momenteel nog niet opgenomen in de autosportladder om punten te verdienen voor de superlicentie, maar daar gaat volgend seizoen verandering in komen. De internationale autosportbond FIA is momenteel nog aan het onderzoeken hoeveel coureurs er punten moeten krijgen en hoeveel punten dit moeten zijn.

Tevens is er meer duidelijk geworden over het selectieproces voor het seizoen 2020. De nummers 1 tot en met 12 van het huidige kampioenschap zullen wederom een uitnodiging krijgen om in 2020 deel te nemen. De overige coureurs kunnen zich wederom aanmelden voor het selectieproces, net als andere vrouwen met een FIA International C-licentie, die dit jaar niet in de W Series reden.

Hoeveel superlicentiepunten zouden ze hiermee moeten verdienen? Sorry, maar geen enkel resultaat in deze klasse is voor mij enige indicatie dat ze F1 waardig zijn.

De F1 is een klasse waar niet alleen maar vrouwen in rijden, dus ik vind dat je coureurs van beide geslachten moet verslaan om hiervoor in aanmerking te kunnen komen. En anders moeten ze een F1 voor vrouwen starten met een heel ander licentiepunten systeem.

En ik bedoel dit niet negatief richting de vrouwenklasse, maar dit is dus eigenlijk juist discriminatie.

  Persoonlijk zou ik het wel leuk vinden dat de kampioen van deze klasse het seizoen erop in de F2 zou mogen rijden. Zo kun je daadwerkelijk kijken on hoeverre de potentie er is voor een eventuele F1 carrière.
  Deze klasse zie ik ook niet als opstapklasse naar de F1 maar meer als promotie voor meer vrouwen in de autosport, zodra er meer aanwas is zal het niveau alleen maar sterker worden en dan is het een kwestie van tijd voordat er een (super)talent opstaat.

  Je krijgt superlicentiepunten omdat je in het juiste materiaal ervaring opdoet. Het zijn ervaringspunten.
  
  Maar goed, ik wil best meegaan in je argument dat je alle twee de geslachten moet verslaan in een competitie om daarvoor licentiepunten te krijgen. Dus mogen er nu in geen enkele klassen waar niet minimaal -wat zullen we zeggen, minstens 10%?- vrouwen aan meedoen.

  Ik vind dat de FIA het net zo moet aanpakken als de "Mazda Road To Indy". Gewoon de vrouwen 3 verschillende opstapclasses laten doorlopen met de optie dat een door de organisatie betaald seizoen in de volgende klasse kunnen verdienen, mits zij kampioen worden dat seizoen. Dus van de W series naar de F3 vervolgens F2 tot slot F1. Iemand die dan wel F1 waardig zou zijn komt er dan ook op een eerlijke manier doorheen.

  Het zijn helemaal geen ervaringspunten. De FIA misbruikt het licentiepunten systeem om klassen te promoten.
  
  Het klopt toch niet als enkele van die vrouwen in andere klassen constant in de achterhoede te vinden zijn en het daar niet voor elkaar krijgen om punten binnen te halen dat ze dan in een womens-only klasse wel de punten kunnen verdienen?
  
  Ik vind het niet uit te leggen naar andere coureurs die veel betere resultaten neer weten te zetten niet aan licentiepunten kunnen komen, maar omdat ze zijn uitgesloten van deelname in deze klasse.
