Crash Buemi maakt vroegtijdig einde aan bandentest Pirelli

Pirelli werkte deze week een bandentest af met prototypen voor het seizoen 2020, maar de tweede dag van de test eindigde vroegtijdig. Sebastien Buemi was de oorzaak daarvan, want hij crashte hard met de Red Bull RB15.

Voorafgaand aan het seizoen 2019 maakte Pirelli al een schema om de banden voor 2020 te kunnen ontwikkelen en testen. In de week na de Britse Grand Prix was de beurt aan Red Bull Racing en Williams om een test af te werken op Silverstone, waarbij alle slicks van de bandenfabrikant geprobeerd konden worden.

Op de eerste dag legden Pierre Gasly en George Russell respectievelijk 102 en 98 ronden af voor de bandenleverancier. Op woensdag gaven zij hun stuurtjes door aan Buemi en Robert Kubica. Zij reden samen in totaal 158 ronden, maar de test moest wel vroegtijdig afgebroken worden. Buemi was bij het uitkomen van Abbey, de snelle rechterbocht na start-finish, hard gecrasht.

Desondanks heeft Pirelli flink data kunnen verzamelen. In de twee dagen werd er in totaal zo'n 2100 kilometer gereden door de aanwezige teams. Het is tevens niet de laatste keer dat Pirelli bandencompounds voor 2020 uitgeprobeerd heeft. Op 10 en 11 september zal Mercedes de testwerkzaamheden afronden door op Paul Ricard ook te testen met de slicks.
