Williams ontkent mogelijke overstap naar Renault: "Onze toekomst ligt bij Mercedes"

Hoewel Williams de laatste twee races eindelijk wat dichter bij het middenveld leek te zitten, zijn de zorgen van het team uit Grove nog verre van verdwenen. De laatste weken ontsprongen er ook wat geruchten dat de relatie met motorenpartner Mercedes ook geen gelukkig huwelijk meer was. Teambaas Claire Williams verwijst de geruchten over een mogelijke overstap naar Renault, echter naar het rijk der fabelen: "Ik heb de berichten gelezen, maar we zijn niet in gesprek met Renault."

Verschillende media meldden vorige week dat Williams hun onafhankelijkheid beter in stand konden houden met Renault als motorleverancier, maar daar is volgens Claire Williams niks van waar: "Mercedes is een fantastische partner voor ons en iedereen weet dat Toto Wolff zijn carrière in de Formule 1 begon bij Williams. Onze relatie met hem is daarom uitstekend en ik zou die relatie graag in stand houden."

"Er is veel speculatie omtrent ons team, maar ik zou niet weten waarom mensen denken dat we een andere motorleverancier zouden willen. Misschien was er weinig nieuws te melden de afgelopen weken. Onze historie met Renault is natuurlijk geweldig, maar onze toekomst ligt bij Mercedes."

Hup, iets meer afnemen van Mercedes(koeling en versnellingsbak).
Kunnen jullie je weer focussen op het chassis, maar ja ik zal wel te makkelijk denken ;-)

  @schwantz34, whaha ik wist dat die zou komen. Maar vorig jaar reden ze iig al met minder vermogen omdat Lowe de koeling niet op orde kregen(om maar niet te spreken over het besparen van de motor vanwege de evt. kosten). Dus het kan allicht beter;-)

Vasthouden aan traditie. Toto komt er vanaf en daarom houden ze het bij Merc . Ik zeg niet dat ze naar Renault moeten maar soms is het nodig om wat anders te proberen.

  John6: En jij zou met dit soort opmerkingen toegang moeten betalen om hier wat te zeggen. Voorlopig steken 4 merken hun nek uit in de F1. Daarwaar VW, Audi, BMW enz niet durven...

De weersverwachting in Engeland vind Clair ook uitstekend! Ook maar naar het rijk der fabelen...
Williams heeft de fabelen in pacht voor zo ver Clair het weet. Uitstekende Mercedes motor kunnen ook naar het rijk der fabelen. Als Williams op hun eigenwijze manier van werken aan de bolide stil blijft staan en geen aansluiting vind bij de best van de rest in middenmoot.

ik zou niet weten wat Williams te winnen heeft door van Mercedes naar Renault te gaan voor motoren.. Dan worden ze alleen maar nog langzamer..

Ik snap best dat Williams een overstapt overweegt, omdat ze ook versnellingsbakken, energieterugwin systemen, e.d. in hun business model hebben. Zo hebben ze dat gewoon aan Audi (toen nog in de LMP1) verkocht.
Waarom zou je die spullen allemaal van Mercedes moeten afnemen, als je ook zo een deel van je businessmodel omzeep helpt??
