Vettel: "Had liever een hete race gehad dan omslag qua weer"

Sebastian Vettel kan tevreden zijn met de eerste dag van de Duitse Grand Prix. Na een eerste en tweede positie tijdens VT1 en VT2 stelt de Ferrari-coureur dat hij graag had gezien dat het de rest van het weekend ook heet was geweest.

Snikheet was het vrijdag namelijk op Hockenheim. De temperaturen stegen tot dichtbij de 40 graden Celsius en dat maakte het niet makkelijk voor de coureurs. Lewis Hamilton stelde naar de sessie over dat de banden moeite hadden met dergelijke temperaturen en dat hij blij is dat voor de rest van het weekend andere weersomstandigheden verwacht worden. Vettel had daarentegen wel graag gezien dat het heet zou blijven.

"Het is lastig te zeggen, want ik weet niet in hoeverre Red Bull Racing en Mercedes zich moesten aanpassen aan de hitte. Het heeft op iedereen impact, want je zag iedereen het bodywork verder openen naar het maximum. Het was fijn geweest om een hele hete race te hebben. Dat is in de auto leuk en ik vind het prettig als je aan het zweten komt, maar de voorspellingen zeggen dat het niet zo wordt zoals vandaag."

Omstandigheden helpen Ferrari volgens Vettel

Vettel hield uiteindelijk een prima gevoel over aan de vrijdag op Hockenheim. "Ik ben redelijk blij. Het was een betere dag. Hier en daar had ik wat moeite om in het ritme te komen. Ik had een flatspot op de mediums tijdens de middagsessie, maar alles bij elkaar voelde het goed. De auto voelde goed en we hebben nog redelijk wat marge om sneller te gaan."

Vettel en Ferrari kwamen er niet aan te pas op Silverstone, maar in Duitsland lijkt de vorm beter te zijn. De Duitser vermoedt dat de omstandigheden daarbij een rol spelen. "Er is niet veel wat ik nu wel vond en in Silverstone niet, want de auto is hetzelfde. Het gaat meer om de condities en het circuit die bepalen hoe wij gaan. Laten we hopen dat we dit vast kunnen houden."

Sebbie,dat moet je nooit zeggen joh.
Dat betekent dat jullie alleen in warm tot heet weer Mercedes kan aanvallen.
Dat horen ze niet graag in Italy..
