Sebastian Vettel reed de derde tijd tijdens de derde vrije training voor de Grand Prix van Duitsland. De Ferrari-coureur kwam echter ook in beeld om een heel andere reden: hij miste op een haar na een vogel.

Vettel had de eerste twee sectoren van een ronde tijdens VT2 afgerond toen hij de stadionsectie in wilde sturen. Vlak daarvoor zat er een vogeltje op de weg. Vettel kwam in volle vaart aangereden richting het vogeltje, die zich net op tijd van de grond los wist te maken. Daardoor kwam het net niet tot een botsing, hoewel het linkervoorwiel van de Ferrari heel dichtbij het vogeltje kwam.
