Pirelli verwacht strategisch voordeel voor Hamilton bij droge Duitse Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas lijken volgens Pirelli een strategisch voordeel te hebben tijdens de Grand Prix van Duitsland ten opzichte van Max Verstappen, omdat ze op de mediums zullen starten.

Voorafgaand aan iedere race maakt Pirelli bekend welke strategieën volgens hun berekeningen het snelste zijn. Voor de race op Hockenheim is dat niet anders. De bandenleverancier is in ieder geval duidelijk in wat de beste strategie is qua aantal pitstops: het maken van één pitstop is volgens Pirelli duidelijk sneller dan varianten waarin de pits twee keer bezocht wordt.

De snelste strategie is volgens Pirelli een start op de gele mediums, om na 24 tot 29 ronden de pits te bezoeken voor een setje harde banden. Dit lijkt het meest voor de hand liggende scenario te zijn voor de Mercedes-coureurs. Het scenario wat voor Verstappen en Pierre Gasly het meest waarschijnlijk is, is een start op softs en die na 19 tot 22 ronden in te wisselen voor een set harde banden.

Tweestoppers langzamer, maar gevaar regen ligt op de loer

Twee andere opties die Pirelli noemt zijn tweestoppers. De eerste variant gaat uit van twee stints van 15 tot 18 ronden op de softs, om daarna de race op medium uit te rijden. Niet veel langzamer is een versie waarbij na 15 tot 18 ronden de softs ingewisseld worden voor mediums, die na 22 tot 26 ronden weer ingewisseld worden voor nog een setje mediums. Mocht het onverwacht heel heet worden, dan ziet Pirelli de tweestoppers een steeds betere strategie worden.

Het is echter nog maar afwachten of de teams dit strategische schaakspel kunnen gaan spelen. Tussen 13.00 uur en 19.00 uur is er ieder uur een kans van tussen de 50 en 60 procent op regen. Mocht het inderdaad gaan regenen, dan geldt het bandenreglement niet meer en zien we mogelijk hele andere strategieën, waarschijnlijk zelfs met de inmenging van regenbanden.

zou mooi zijn als na 18 ronden gaat regenen, dan heb je met softs geen probleem omdat je toch moet overschakelen :)

Het kan na 20 seconden al over en uit zijn. voor wie dan ook. Als Hamilton na de eerste 5 rondjes nog 1ste ligt dan gaat hij hem gewoon winnen. Maar ik denk dat als Bottas of Max erlangs gaan het gewoon heel spannend gaat worden. Beetje regen later in de race en het feest is compleet.

Ik sluit zelfs niet uit dat er middenvelders op het podium kunnen komen vandaag als er spettertjes gaan vallen.

  Bottas kampt met een duivels dilemma. Hij moet presteren anders einde contract maar tegelijkertijd mag hij Lewis niet in de wielen rijden anders einde contract. Dus ik verwacht dat hij een fout maakt. Verder staan er wat rijders vooraan die normaal met het mes tussen de tanden in het middenveld starten. Benieuwd hoe dat uitpakt straks. Als de regen doorzet...pandemonium.

Red Bull is nog net te langzaam, ook in de race. Starten op soft kan wellicht op een licht vochtige baan vooral bij de start een voordeeltje zijn. Of zal het eindelijk echt een keer gaan regenen? Wordt wel een keer tijd!

Bij mijn weten zijn ze nog nooit juist geweest.
Als het droog blijft zal Max er binnen 3 rondjes voorbij moeten anders is zijn kans verkeken.
