Brawn: "Zomerstop komt op het juiste moment voor Ferrari"

Scuderia Ferrari heeft een mindere eerste seizoenshelft achter de rug, met 288 punten en de tweede plaats moet het team nu naar achteren kijken in plaats van omhoog. Volgens Ross Brawn, voormalig technisch directeur bij de Italianen, komt de zomerstop precies op tijd. De sportief directeur van de Formule 1, ziet voor na de zomerstop nog volop mogelijkheden voor Vettel en Ferrari.

Vettel heeft langere droogtes gehad met Ferrari - het Italiaanse team heeft in 2016 geen race gewonnen - maar dit jaar was het bijzonder teleurstellend, omdat ze zo snel leken tijdens het testen, maar het seizoen tot nu toe zo matig is. Sebastian Vettel, de hoogst geplaatste Ferrari-coureur in het 2019-klassement, staat 94 punten achter op concurrent Lewis Hamilton van Mercedes. Ook Red Bull-coureur Max Verstappen en Mercedes-coureur Valtteri Bottas staan boven de Duitser.

Ross Brawn vertelde dat de Italianen rust nodig hebben om te herstellen. "De zomerstop is waarschijnlijk precies op het juiste moment gekomen, omdat ik me goed bewust ben van hoe de druk op Ferrari kan opbouwen als het niet goed gaat," zei voormalig Ferrari-technisch directeur Ross Brawn. De Italiaanse media is altijd kritisch en dat lieten ze de afgelopen maanden merken. "Het kan geen kwaad om even uit te ademen en de batterijen op te laden," voegde de Brit toe, die met vijf keer kampioen werd bij Ferrari met Michael Schumacher.

Spa en Monza brengen hoop

De volgende twee high-speed races in Spa en Monza, Ferrari's thuiscircuit met zijn gepassioneerde fans, brengen hoop voor Ferrari. Het team is altijd goed op deze circuits en hopen hier de draad op te kunnen pakken.

Vettel weet echter dat er meer nodig is dan een overwinning als moraalbooster. "Spa en Monza zijn misschien beter voor ons, maar uiteindelijk is het onze ambitie om dingen echt te laten gebeuren, om de race te beheersen," zei hij na de Grand Prix van Hongarije waar hij als derde finishte.

Max Verstappen heeft meer punten uit zijn laatste twee races gescoord dan Vettel in vier en staat nu 25 punten los van de Duitser Op zondag was de strijd tussen Mercedes en Red Bull, waarbij Vettel meer dan een minuut later de finish passeerde dan Hamilton

Ik denk juist niet. Die motor is echt een beest maar heel die wagen zit niet echt goed in elkaar. Tel daar een verslagen Vettel en een Leclerc bij op in zijn eerste jaar.... Dan had ik liever gehad dat ze hadden kunnen werken aan de wagen. Nu hoor ik ook weer dat ze een nieuwe motor upgrade krijgen maar daar zit echt het probleem niet bij Ferrari.

  Een beresterke motor bouwen kunnen ze zeker wel in Maranello. Maar om een auto door te ontwikkelen tijdens het seizoen, en tijdens de races de juiste tactische keuzes te maken hebben ze al jaren geen Mozarella gegeten daaro. Om over de veels te vaak voorkomende conflicten (machtsspelletjes) achter de schermen nog maar te zwijgen. Er is altijd wel wat bij Ferrari wat onrust voor onrust zorgt, en daardoor een negatieve invloed heeft op het hele team, en daardoor ook van negatieve invloed is op de prestaties van hun coureurs.

  Schijnt dat hun spec 3 20pk meer gaat leveren. Maar laten we wel wezen, al hadden ze een uber dominante auto dan nog zouden ze waarschijnlijk geen kampioen worden simpelweg om datgene wat Schwantz ook al zegt. Het is daar de afgelopen jaren een slangenkuil en totaal niet verwonderlijk dat Vettel er niet kan aarden.
  
  Wat ze nodig hebben is een stabiel management voor meerdere jaren dus laat Binotto er maar eens een aantal jaar zitten en dan maken ze vanaf 2021 weer eens echt kans.
  
  Ze zien nu in leclerc “de verlosser” zoals ze dat ook in Vettel zagen, en voor hem Alonso en voor hem Kimi enz enz. Het probleem zit hem niet in de coureurs maar in de structuur van het team zelf.

  Een zomerSTOP, zoals het woord al zegt. Als iedereen zich daar aan hield had een stuk minder ''burnouts''.
  Burnouts zijn trouwens ook zeer onwenselijk voor een F1-team. Vooral omdat je maar een beperkt aantal motoren mag gebruiken.
