Raikkonen zelf niet veranderd: "Misschien stellen media nu normale vragen"

Het leven van Kimi Raikkonen is inmiddels in rustiger vaarwater gekomen. De Alfa Romeo-coureur is niet meer het feestbeest van weleer en toonde zich in de afgelopen jaren steeds opener richting de media.

Sinds korte tijd maakt Raikkonen een veel openere indruk tegenover de media. In het verleden kenmerkten antwoorden van de wereldkampioen van 2007 zich door een zeer kort karakter, waarbij antwoorden met 'ja' en 'nee' eerder regel dan uitzondering waren. Sinds zijn komst naar Alfa Romeo lijkt Raikkonen echter een stuk opener tegenover de media.

Zelf denkt Raikkonen dat die verandering niet aan hemzelf te danken is, maar dat het juist komt doordat de verslaggevers hem nu 'normale' vragen stellen. "Ik heb niet het gevoel dat iets anders is. Misschien vraagt men mij nu normale vragen en geen stomme dingen. Als ik wel domme vragen krijg, dan antwoord ik nog steeds erg kort. Zo simpel is het", vertelde Raikkonen tegenover GPToday.net.

Raikkonen nu graag bij familie in vrije tijd

In het verleden doken er nog wel eens video's op van Raikkonen die zich liet gaan op feestjes. Bekend is een video dat hij dronken van een schip valt. Tegenwoordig lijkt hij een stuk rustiger te zijn qua uitgaan en dat bevestigt de voormalig McLaren- en Ferrari-coureur ook. Zijn nieuwe familiesituatie, met twee kinderen, is daar een van de redenen voor.

"Het leven verandert. Soms ga ik nog wel eens uit, maar er zijn nu belangrijkere dingen in het leven dan altijd uitgaan. Voor mijn gevoel is er amper iets veranderd. Ik wil graag thuis bij mijn kinderen zijn, omdat ik vaak weg ben door het racen en werken. Ik vind het dus prettig om tijd met de familie door te brengen als dat kan."

'Anders zou ik wel van haar gaan scheiden'

Woensdag vierde Raikkonen het driejarig jubileum van zijn huwelijk met Minttu. Op Instagram ging dat gepaard met een typische reactie van Raikkonen: "Gelukkig levenslang!" Desondanks is de 39-jarige erg gelukkig met zijn vrouw. "Ja, anders zou ik wel van haar scheiden. Ze is perfect. Ze zorgt ervoor dat ik blij ben en ze let goed op de kinderen als ik weg ben. Een ideale avond is dat we gewoon thuis zijn met de kinderen. Soms gaan we de deur uit om ergens te eten, maar dat doen we niet vaak."

Het boek van Kari Hotakainen over Kimi is wel echt een aanrader. Staan een aantal heerlijke anekdotes in van Kimi, waardoor je de man mede wat beter leert kennen (voor zover dat van een afstand mogelijk is).

  Ik denk toch dat iemand die Kimi, vanaf zijn debuut in de racerij, heeft gevolgd daar geen boek voor nodig is .
  Maar ja , sommige anecdotes zijn ook prima leesvoer.

  Eens Spielberg dat er veel over Kimi bekend is/was voordat het boek verscheen. Zo weet ik zelf genoeg over zijn tijd in Vlaardingen bij Peter, aangezien ik daar ook vaak zat te vinden was/ben. Verder steek je natuurlijk genoeg op wanneer je hem al sinds 2000 hebt gevolgd. Desalniettemin zijn de anekdotes over zijn dienstplicht mij bijvoorbeeld geheel nieuw. Prachtig hoofdstuk!
