Red Bull en Ferrari veel agressiever dan Mercedes in bandenkeuze voor België

Pirelli heeft ruim drie weken voor de Belgische Grand Prix onthuld welke bandenkeuzes de teams gemaakt hebben voor die race. De meeste teams zetten vol in op de zachtste rubbersamenstelling.

Teams moeten voorafgaand aan een Grand Prix doorgeven aan Pirelli welke banden zij graag willen gebruiken tijdens het weekend. Deze keuzes moeten acht weken voor een Europese Grand Prix en twaalf weken voor een overzeese race doorgegeven worden aan de bandenleverancier, die er dan voor gaat zorgen dat de teams op de locatie van de race voorzien worden van de juiste bandencompounds.

Voor België heeft Pirelli in een eerder stadium al de drie hardste compounds (C1, C2 en C3) geselecteerd en nu heeft de Italiaanse firma bekendgemaakt hoeveel setjes de teams en coureurs van iedere compound willen hebben. De zachtste compound blijkt ontzetten in trek te zijn bij de meeste teams. Vier van de tien teams hebben gekozen voor tien setjes van de zachtste compound, de C3.

Onder hen vallen onder andere de coureurs van Red Bull Racing en Ferrari, maar ook de coureurs van Renault en Haas F1. Dat staat in contrast met de keuzes van Mercedes en Carlos Sainz: zij worden op Spa-Francorchamps voorzien van slechts acht setjes met zachte banden. De overige negen coureurs zijn door hun team voorzien van negen setjes softs. De harde banden zijn duidelijk het minst populair, want alleen George Russell krijgt twee setjes van die compound.

Williams bedoel je, helaas rijdt Russel nog niet voor Merc ;)

Maar inderdaad, er werd in Hongarije gezegd (volgens mij door Max of Lewis) dat ze niet op de Hard testen, omdat ze liever testen op de Soft aangezien gridpositie zo ontzettend belangrijk is. Inhalen is gewoon erg lastig en als je een... [Lees verder]

Wat mij nou altijd opvalt is het feit dat bijna alle teams (m.u.v. Mercedes) maar 1 setje van de harde compound kiezen.
Zodoende kunnen ze nooit eens een longrun uitvoeren op die band terwijl dat soms toch ook wel handig kan zijn daar wat data van te hebben.(zie de harde band van Max in Hongarije, echter de gele ging ook wel heel kort mee daar)

  De keuze van RB is wel erg agressief met zoveel rood en dan maar 2 setjes geel, ik denk dat 3 sets geel en 1 set minder soft beter was geweest, maar dat gaan we zien.

Inhalen is gewoon erg lastig en als je eenmaal track position hebt en je schakelt om naar Hard dan maakt het niet veel meer uit hoe snel je rond gaat, voorbij komen ze toch niet.
  
  En toen gebeurde Hongarije, waar het dus wel degelijk uitmaakte, met verschillende coureurs die net 'over the cliff' gingen met de Hard.
  
  Ik denk dat Mercedes graag wat extra runs op de Medium wil maken en daar ook op wil kwalificeren. Lijkt me geen slechte keus op zich.

De Soft nu (is een C3) is gelijk aan de Medium in Hongarije. Dus zo soft is deze niet.

  Ter aanvulling in 2018 hadden ze de SuperSoft, Soft en Medium.
  Het is niet helemaal vergelijkbaar met dit jaar maar het lijkt erop dat Pirelli voor banden is gegaan die langer meegaan dan vorig jaar en dus is de keuze niet zo vreemd.

  Dat viel mij ook op. Erg conservatief. Op Spa reed men meestal met relatief zachte banden. Nu brengt Pirelli de hardste compounds mee. Bijzonder...

Tja logisch als je C1 tot C3 meeneemt. Vorig jaar was een halve race op de SS simpel te doen dus ze hadden beter C2 tot C4 kunnen nemen
