Sainz verwacht niet dat hij Gasly verslaat in eindstand kampioenschap

Carlos Sainz verwacht niet dat hij veel kans heeft om Pierre Gasly voor te blijven in de eindstand van het WK van 2019, ondanks het kleine verschil dat er momenteel is tussen beide coureurs.

Zijn eerste seizoen in dienst van McLaren verloopt zeer aardig voor Sainz. Hij staat na twaalf races zevende in het kampioenschap, met een achterstand van vijf punten op nummer 6 Gasly. De Fransman heeft het juist lastig in zijn eerste jaar bij Red Bull. Volgens Sainz laten zijn resultaten zien hoe consistent hij en McLaren zijn, maar zal Gasly verslaan een onmogelijke taak zijn.

"Ik denk niet dat het zo zal blijven, helaas, maar het laat zien hoe goed we het nu doen en hoe consistent we sinds Bakoe zijn", vertelde Sainz aan Crash.net. "Ik weet niet hoeveel punten ik heb, maar het is ongelooflijk. In de eerste drie races waren we ongelukkig en viel het niet samen, maar sinds Bakoe betaalt alles zich uit."

"Het harde werk van de winter, het harde werk in de fabriek in Woking betalen zich nu uit. We blijven ieder weekend presteren met een geweldige strategie, goede pitstops en goede zondagen. Zo hoort het te zijn en dat moeten we blijven doen."

Sainz verwacht niet dat McLaren uit middenmoot ontsnapt

Sainz voegde toe dat hij niet verwacht dat McLaren weg zal blijven lopen bij de middenmoot door het krappe gevecht. Hij verwacht dat de overige teams door zullen blijven ontwikkelen. "Ik denk niet dat we in de tweede helft van het seizoen kunnen ontsnappen uit de middenmoot. We zullen wat tienden vinden voor de auto en dat is geweldig, maar dat gaat iedereen doen."

"We moeten dus voorzichtig blijven. Waar we voor moeten zorgen is dat we de juiste stappen leren te zetten met de auto van dit jaar en dat we ervan leren voor volgend jaar. Dat is volgens mij het hoofddoel voor de tweede helft van het seizoen: leren van deze auto, zodat we alles op de juiste plaats kunnen brengen voor de auto van volgend jaar."

Normaal gesproken zal dat zeker niet gebeuren, maar met Gasly weet je maar nooit.

Want het is best wel schokkend dat Max voor de winst vecht en dat Gasly tegelijkertijd een McLaren niet voorbij komt.

McLaren moet zorgen dat ze die 4e plek vasthouden, dat is belangrijk voor de pegels en ook voor het moraal natuurlijk.

Dit seizoen hebben ze een mooie stap in de goede richting gezet, ik en benieuwd of ze in staat zijn, om in 2020 een volgende grote stap te zetten.
Ik heb er wel vertrouwen in :)

  Laten we het hopen! Zowel Sainz als Norris verdienen een competitieve auto. Zou ook beter zijn voor het kampioenschap.

  Dat hier uberhaupt over gesproken wordt is alleen al extra pijnlijk voor Gasly. Hoelang is het wel niet geleden dat zich een middenmoot zich kon nestelen in de top 6 van het kampioenschap? Merc Ferrari en RB hebben al jaren die eerste 6 plekken gereserveerd lijkt het.

  Yup, maar als Albon het ook maar ietjes beter doet dan Gasly, haalt ie Sainz nog wel in. Maakt voor Sainz netto niet zo veel uit dan.
